 Driving to Livigno

Hi,
I normally drive to Livigno from Bergamo. This year I am flying to Memmingen in Germany. I am not sure if I should go through Austria or Switzerland. Can anyone tell me the best route as there appear to be several ?

Welcome to J2ski I'm not too sure of your route, and will leave that for others to suggest, though would advise that both Austria and Switzerland require you to purchase a Tax sticker for your car. The Swiss one is for Motorways costs 40 chf (30 euros) and lasts a year. I have heard that you can buy a short term one for Austria.

Also make sure you double check the route given and be aware that a sat nav may try and direct you over a closed mountain pass.
Thanks Guys,
I will try to avoid those snow filled mountain passes.
The Austrian vignette (motorway sticker) costs about €8 for a 10 day pass. I suspect pretty much any (sensible)route will also take you through some reasonably expensive tolled tunnels.

However, the real question is why you would drive to Livigno if you fly to Memmingen? or conversely, why would you fly to Memmingen if you want to get to Livigno?

Unless, I am mistaken, it is a very long, ackward and probably expensive drive and you be bypassing many superb ski resorts along the way in Austria and Switzerland.

If I were you, I would rethink my plans (unless already locked into bookings you can't change) and try for something more convenient, e.g. flights to Bergamo or Milan or else forget about Livigno and head somewhere in Austria.
Flights to Memmingen were much cheaper and better times. Looking at google maps its only a few Kms further. Had already booked hotel.
Your route would be Innsbruck,Landeck then up the Inn valley into Switzerland and enter livigno Via the Munt le Schera tunnel .

just as the previous post said for directions - landeck, resia, then turn right at/before Glorenza, worth a check, smallest walled city in europe. would recommend some of those resorts either side of the resia pass to break up the journey.

great journey and roads from landeck, no tolls, apart from the vignette. which is €7.80 for 10 days. if you get one for the journey through from germany, you will normally get away with it on the way back but don't blame me if you do not. However you will see that it is much more noticeable that you have to buy a pass coming from germany than coming from italy. have fun.
