need to hire a car from the airport - any makes or models that will fit 4 people and a board bag? (plus normal luggage)

Any hints?

thanks!

Have you thought about asking the car hire company?

If we need to take skis short distance we put one of the back seats down - assuming you got a car with split seats you could do that with your board bag.
But you need to check which cars are offered to you I think.

yeah cool - i believe now a people carrier with the middle seat down is the best option and four on either side front and back. most people carriers do that nowadays don't they? will check with the hire company as you say but price are changing daily and really want to wait to get the best deal.

thanks for the advice!

Oh just fold it up, it fit in most cars :)

Hire a roof rack for the board cheaper then hiring a larger car - that is assuming boards fit on roof racks.

At some locations, such as Geneva, it seems to be the case that there's a big hike in cost between a small 4-person car and anything big enough for four people, luggage and board. So it may be worth checking on the price of your intended vehicle and the alternative of hiring a small car and stuffing it with luggage and board, and then getting 2-3 people to travel by train. Then use the car as a taxi at the other end. This works for some resorts, but not for others, so it does vary. Also, if you have people coming from different location and arriving at different times, then the car+train can work well - you're not left hanging round for hours waiting for the last person to turn up.

actually it's not too bad. £100 difference but between 4 people - I would never try and squeeze 4 in a small car for 2.5 hours.

although will take your suggestions on board - it may work!

If its for snowboards cut them in half & put them in the boot.

Sarah, if the board bag is not too big, should fit into a Passat, or similar estate car, at an angle, so not impinging on the seat space. If the price for a 7 seater is not too much more, worth going for this.
A bigger hit can be the charge for winter tyres. I only found one hirer that gave modest charges, in advance, on-line.
Most of them were vague, and of course, when you get to the airport, you are a dripping roast!
