Be careful pulling Austria and its population to bits cos last time they did it they all got a piece of the Spread Eagle, their national symbol,Styria, the area round Schladming, still sports a drum stick on their local flag, you might get the parsons nose in you're half!

I went forth and did research, after much google and wikipediaing I found Ault Hucknall in Derbyshire lay claim to the smallest village in the UK title, however just next door in Croatia is the worlds smallest village called "Hum" thats got a certain bouquet to it and to my mind certainly fits the bill

[img]Sorry, but I have also been a regular to Schladming and the Igloo but we tried the Tenne last time aswell, dont remember coming out!Like you say,not really for the "over the hill club"but any village with its own brewery can't be bad

Looks like back to the nursery slopes with a balloon between your knees,it really hurts when you lose your balloon, but it keeps your feet together and your balance between your skis

So,all good so far, come out you doom mongers, lets have the bad bits!Ellmau is only 820m high,so some days,if its snowing upstairs,as if,it will be raining in the village, dont be put off, check the web cams,it can be glorious sunshine at the Hartkaiser. The other thing is on the piste map,the lifts are numbered but not the runs so the only way to navigate in fog is to watch for restaurants going by,they are numbered also.If you get a chance to ski to the Hohe Salve,a wooden church at 1829m,beware coming back because the pistes are not marked on the map!Have fun.

Super, was there at Christmas, had a super week, even if the weather was a bit dodgy. You'll find Ellmau a very traditional village, not a modern ski resort,so you get lots of little pubs and restaurants on the main street, horse drawn sleighs, that sort of thing. The nursery slopes are within easy walking distance but its a bit of a walk on to the funicular railway, but ski buses run to it from outside the alpenhof so problem solved.there is a short cut up the nursery slope drag lift and back down the toboggan run to a 4 man chairlift, ideal for your party!up to the Astberg, from there a gentle red takes you down to the railway.Once up the train it brings you to the Hartkaiser,a massive restaurant with panorama windows and you can see for miles, weather permitting. From there you can go anywhere,250km of slope,108km rated easy and only 22km rated black,so you'll be lucky if you even see them!I found most mountain restaurants to be generally good, nice food, clean and not excessivly expensive, beer being 4Eu a pot and chips at 3Eu a basket. For you're confidence,I can only suggest you have a word with your Crystal reps at the welcome meeting,it should be either Greg or Mike, they do guided tours,3 days in the week, and bribe them with sneewasser, get them to take you round the easy bit till you get your confidance back, have a good time and when you get back, let me know how you went on please,Cheers.
