The Carre Neige insurance says it will repatriate you, rescue you off the mountain, pay your medical bills above what the French NHS pay (up to 3,000 euros), and pay for your lost ski lessons and lift pass: http://www.carreneige.com/accueil.en.html?PHPSESSID=a0af6edaa384faf7efcea8d7b12370ec (Oh - you have to go to 'our offers' , 'Alpine more information', 'our coverage') OUR ALPINE OFFERS BENEFIT FROM TOP-LEVEL COVERAGE Rescue and evacuation* From the moment ski patrollers are sent right up to your transfer to the most appropriate medical facility, Carré Neige is by your side. I've changed the date and number of days/sleeps left for Stewart :D

I think British people can only use the Carre Neige when they're ski-ing in France. |

Not if you open your mouth and say something like 'I'm terribly sorry, it was all my fault' if you collide with someone. My insurance policy says if you admit guilt you're not covered. I think this is ridiculous. I mean, I might well accidentally ski into someone and hurt them and quite naturally apologize for doing so. And I would expect my insurers to cover for me this. It's not as though I would deliberately ski into anyone and hurt them. And I don't suppose your insurance will cover you if Stewart gets lost on his way to the ski resort with your skis and all your lugggage  |

Oh dear Volf, that doesn't sound at all good :(
It seems as though some of the chalet companies are in more trouble than I thought. Maybe this will mean the end of chalet holidays in France altogether, not just the end of ski hosting, if the French crack down on all the relevant laws. I don't see why the owners aren't allowed to deduct board and lodging from the wages, though. That must put the legal weekly wage up quite a bit! Presumably the seasonaires put up with the lousy wages because they love ski-ing/snowboarding so much ... |

I am sorry Nelly, to hear that it's worse than you first thought :(
Best of luck that all goes according to plan and you're ski-ing again next year :D |

Is Tony H going a day earlier as well? Does that mean I need to change the dates for both of you? If Ian W hadn't booked a last minute holiday I would have been at the top of the list tomorrow :( ;) And yes Tony, you're quite right, I haven't started packing yet. I've only got until Sunday to get the law changed on ski hosting, so I've got a lot of work left to do on it yet ;) |

The carre Neige also covers your medical expenses and repatriation back home as long as you live in Europe.
It will also pay you back for the money you lose on your lift pass when you can't ski/snowboard. I always pay for the Carre Neige, on top of my travel insurance, because people who aren't resident in France can't buy the cancellation insurance for the Carre Neige. And my travel insurance covers me for other things like loss of my luggage, and loss of my passport etc. |
