I'm considering a new jacket because of the need for gore-tex and loads of breathability. This is not a cheap option.
I tend to get very hot when skiing unless temperatures are lower than say -10. And that's just with a base layer and insulated jacket. I think therefore I'd be happier with an uninsulated gore-tex outer shell, a merino base and a mid layer as and when required. Looking at Norrona, Sweet, Arc'teryx etc. Interestingly we're off on our 1st european summer holiday for 18 years in August...........to Tuscany. I might not survive. |

I think Hemsedal is pretty spectacular if you go off piste:
Even some ice climbing if you are bored in the evening! ![]() |

Only if you put up a picture of your tea.....and it better be good -) |

They do say that Hemsedal is the "Scandinavian Alps"
I can't comprehend how cold it would be at say 3,250m in Norway..... |

I saw the light. If you're going to big it up, then you need to really big it up.

I did finish it, down to the last grain of rice. Not much point taking a photo of an empty plate. It was very tasty. |

I nearly bought a a very nice gore-tex Sweet Protection jacket in Norway. It was £300 down from £550. It was red which wasn't my 1st choice. Slept on it, went back to the shop the next day and some git had bought it. There is a moral in there somewhere.
There was a equally high quality Norrona jacket but I received negative feedback from the family when I tried it on.
Apparently I'm not "youthful" enough to carry it off   To cap it all, my friend who we were holidaying with came back from another shop with a Norrona jacket down from £500 to £150.   He looked like the cat that had got the cream. I'm now scouring Uk websites for stuff in the sale. Tricky when you can't try on before you buy though. |
