pavelski wrote:Many years ago, when my sons were young ( 10-12 ) I began a "ski bum" expedition tradition where for two weeks we would ski! We would leave home not knowing where we would ski and just follow the sun and the snow !
At that time I have a Ford Econoline 12 seater van! I took seats out, put in bed mattresses, and voilĂ  had place to sleep !

As my sons got older ,,they insisted in continuing the tradition ! This was one of those trips !

But first,,you all must promise,,,I mean really promise never to tell my sons that I "passed" along this story to you since they are all "important" management types in multinational companies and,,,,,

Nicholas was 19 and Sasha was 17 and we were with 5 other older great great skiers

We are in one large well know ski resort and it is late April ( this was when there was lots of snow all winter ) ! Great +10c sunny day and we are skiing down a steep narrow run that few skiers take ! We are a serpent one after another following perfect curves !

We get to bottom and my son Nicholas says, " dad,,dad,,did you see those girls" ?
"What girls" I replied ! Seems I was so busy concentrating on my run,,I missed 15 girls tanning ( in various levels of dress) on some rocks !

We had a quick group discussion and off we went again to this secluded run,,,,!
This time I let my son lead ! At a steep section sure enough there were the girls,,,but they were prepared for us ! As we passed them,,,,they all turned their backs to us,,,,bent over and,,,,,,,,, ( sorry Dave is reading this also,,so I let you imagination roam about in that general area close to the donkey ) !!!

At bottom another group conference!
Our male egos were "challenge" ! Our male identities questioned ! We could not let this pass !

What to do!

My son ( which surprised me) came up with a proper "reply" to that gesture !

Here is what we did!

Remember it was late April. It was +10 to +20 c and we were skiing in shorts and T-shits!

At top in this quiet secluded ski run,,,we stripped!!! One person took all our material.

We skied fast,,very fast in a line down this run and at the very place the girls were,,,,,we did a huge "across slope turn" so that we were coming straight for them!

First there was a silence,,,,then cheers,,, calls,,, laughing,,,whistling, more cheers,,,,and as we passed them,,,you could hear the echos in the valley !

Never saw my sons ski so fast and so gracefully !
Never saw such grins on their faces!
Saw how happy they were !

A ski holiday their mother never knew what happened,,but two days later she did mention that the boys "seemed" different ! More sure of themselves !
She asked, "did anything happen on the ski trip" ?

I just smiled and replied with a soft,,,,"lots" !

She knew not to ask what !

That is what Spring skiing does!

Happens to me all the time

Carrying the clothes

Another & more significant event taking place in Tignes 2013 is the J2Ski members tour, details will be posted in due course & appropriate warnings will be issued in the general area for damage limitation concerns. :D

Old Fart category sounds about right :D

Trouble is, there are so many of us, it would skew the survey

But in a positive way

Right then bedrock !!!

What size is your chain saw ??

That's more like it - proper wibble.

Errrrmmm........ I'm not sure without going out to the workshop (and I'm not that sad). I think it's a Husqvarna 345 with an 18 inch bar? I love my chainsaw. Got padded trousers (blue like snapzzz), a matching orange lid and special gloves. Had to clear a fallen tree so we could get out of our drive in the bad winter 2 years ago. Magic

Hah !!!!!! Not a real chainsaw man if you do't know your bar size

But mine is only a 16" McCulloch

Bet you have a 14lb sledgehammer as well .......

But I have a 30cc brushcutter
and a 21" walk behind mower......
and a 15" flymo
and a 4hp outboard :D

for the uninitated bedrock and I are playing top trumps with garden machinery .........
He is winning so far

Of course I have a sledgehammer.

I don't have a mower fetish though - why do you need three of them? Also you'd be there all day trying to cut grass with an outboard. :)

He only uses the outboard when the strimmer breaks down, makes sense really )
