The answer to that is to tag the kids.
In whistler all the kids in ski school are tagged with gps so a control station knows at all times where they are. Apparently i hear that if a Ski instructor 'loses' one child without even knowing about it they are informed by radio. Clever stuff.
It can't be long before they could put GPS tags into lift passes so the ski patrol can see who is on the mountain and where they are in such conditions.

I know some people would object and scream big brother but the safety rewards are immense.

Went years ago, and overnighted in SF before picking up the hire car. It's around a 4 hour drive.
If the Tahoe Paddle steamer is running, you can get across to Squaw...by boat!

I suggest buying day tickets, as there are often Coupon's with money savings to be made in the local newspapers/free sheets and stores.

If you had to pick 1 place to go as a day out, it has to be Squaw. It's so different to every other US resort I've visited.

In Heavenly, you can look over the Lake..and see across the Desert towards Reno, pretty amazing views.

South Lake Tahoe, has a split personality, half is low rise laid back...half is high rise neon lit Casino's. As soon as you arrive, check out who is playing at the major venue's, they can pull in some big names.

After a day on the hill, I found the Casino's with their lights and noise too much for my nervous system! Expect to see folks wearing shorts carrying buckets full of money :D

As it's the US, they don't have queues, they have lift lines, and a drag lift/Poma is called a surface lift!

There were Bears and Coyotes in the woods when we were there.

Everyone will be fine, the rail line is blocked, along with the road.
Folks might be late leaving the resort if MGB can't clear the track quickly tomorrow.
Heads up for Val d'Isere from Henry of Henry's Avalanche Talks.

This from his own site tonight...

Avalanche Rating of 5 out of 5 for all of Savoie, Massif Mt Blanc in Haute Savoie & Bellddone in Isère

Avalanches coming down on to the roads in and around villages at altitude like Val d'Isère where I am at 1850 m. All the roads are closed (or closing) in the village and access is already closed from Bourg Saint Maurice to Tignes and Val d'Isère. Restaurant owners are being asked to send there customers home, bars are obliged to close by 21.00 and nighclubs are forbidden to open!

Winds were recorded at up to 125 km/h at 2800 m at the FlowCapt Weather Station at La Davie above the dam in Tignes at 20.00.

Hold on to your hats - it's supposed to continue until morning! More updates as things evolve.

Henry
