Ave. snow fall for Italian resorts
Started by User in Italy, 15 Replies
I don't know about the other Italian ski resorts, but I have looked at the historical snow reports for Folgarida/Madonna di Campiglio because that's where I'm going with a few other people from here in February 2014 :)

I looked at snow in February for the 8 years from 2006 and there was at least 50cm on the lower slopes and 100 on the higher slopes in all of those years apart from 2007 when there was only 30cm and 70cm. And most years there was around 50/150 cm. In 2009 there was 200/225!

I looked on the Ski Club of GB website, but according to Admin you will soon be able to get some information on average snowfall on here :)
Val Thorens Jan. snow and weather cond?

I've been to Val Thorens and the problem we had was that one day it was so windy they shut all the lifts, so there was no ski-ing that day :(
And I tried to get my ski pass money back for that day, but stupidly left claiming this until I got back to the U.K. and whilst it seems I was entitled to get it back for that day, somehow it never happened :(
Hi Shipjack,
The combined ticket prices for the Eurostar between London and Paris, and the French sleeper train between Paris and Bourg St Maurice, started at £81 single for the 6 person couchette and rapidly went up to £126 one way. I was watching the prices because I was organizing the group holiday to Tignes.

On another occasion I found I could sleep on the night Eurostar as long as I bought the more expensive tickets because you get much bigger and more comfortable seats with proper head rests. But I couldn't sleep at all in the cheap Eurostar seats.

I also managed to sleep no bother in the very squashy 6 person couchette. They're arranged in triple bunks and there's not enough head room to sit up in them, and you have to climb up a ladder to get into the upper bunks, and there's very little luggage storage room. Plus, the guy in my couchette turned all the lights off so it was a very good thing I didn't need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night (the toilets are down the corridor). If I do it again I think I will bring a torch with me, just in case!

Ian - in the past I have bought them even cheaper than that. If you're a member of the Ski Club of GB you get a discount, if you buy the tickets early enough.

When I wanted them for Feb half-term I used to get them the second they went on sale, and by lunch time they were usually all gone!

I think I'll leave making my List of where everyone's going and the number of sleeps they've got left, for a couple of months or so - give you all time to get booked!
Thanks very much - it looks great :)
Les Arcs is somewhere I've been thinking of going for ages but not got around to!

The only way I can do it, is to click on 'index' (top right button) and then 'ski chatter' and then a 'new topic' (or whatever it's called) button appears so you can click on that.

4 nov?

Yes !!!! :) :)

I'm on the Inside Out Skiing coaching trip to Tignes 4th - 7th November

I did a day of ski coaching with them last year, in the dome at Hemel Hempstead, and I've been to the Les Melezes chalet in Tignes Les Boisses 4 times with Mountain Sun.

My husband is coming as well, although he doesn't ski.
