The lifts on the Cervinia side are open and conditions down to Plan Maison are very good. The weather is forecast to be warm and sunny until Friday, so there shouldn't be any problems with the link to Zermatt.
Tino_11 made a very good point about theft on Swiss railways; there are gangs of professional criminals 'working' on the line from Geneva to Lausanne.http://goo.gl/UBuJb |

A taxi transfer from GVA to Cervinia takes about 2.5 hours and costs 800 chf, there is no viable public transport alternative. On the plus side accommodation, food, drink and lift passes are much cheaper there than in Zermatt.

It's 236 km from Geneva to Zermatt which takes just over 3 hours to drive. A taxi will cost you about 500 Francs the taxi will take you to Zermatt, there is a road from Täsch but a permit is needed to use it. A one way first class train ticket costs 162 Francs, second class 95 Francs. Helicopter transfers with Air Zermatt cost 5000

The reason for the later opening and earlier closing dates is probably financial. After a period of strong growth the skiing industry has entered a period of decline, so some of the lift companies are trying to cut costs. Some places have been affected worse than others. Saas Fee Bergbahn's major share holder had to lend it 600,000 Francs during the summer as it didn't have enough cash to pay the bills. The Monterosa lift company lost 2 million Euros last season, in the previous season it lost 3 million.

They obviously give you a better chance, providing you're able to pull the trigger in time and don't get swept over a cliff or into some trees. They can also save your mates a lot of effort

The current ABS cartridges can only be refilled by the manufacturer. Take the empty cartridge to a retailer and they will exchange it for a full one, at a cost of course. Snell Sports is the ABS retailer in Chamonix.

This is a better idea, assuming there were no holdups it would take 10-12 hrs to get from Selva to Zermatt. The quickest way is via Verona and Brig.

I'll try, as well as adjusting the forward pressure the FP screw is used to adjust the heel piece to the length of the boot. Open the binding and place the boot in it as shown below, then move the heel piece along the track until the heel cup almost touches the boot.
Close the heel piece.
Check if the FP screw (circled in yellow) is flush with housing.
If not adjust it until it is, this is actually better done with the binding open as it puts less strain on the screw and the track. Then put the boot back in the binding and check if the screw is still flush if not readjust. |
