Transport Vancouver to Whistler

If you have a condo with free parking then it probably would be useful hiring a car. Especially if there are more than two of you. It will come in useful when you want to go to the supermarket to stock up on beers (Squamish or Pemberton). Depending on conditions and what type of car/SUV you hire, you could also take a day off and drive through Pemberton towards Lillooet or back into the city for the day. there are a few interesting little stops along the sea to sky highway.

For a slightly more unusual 'scenic'. You could include the resort of le tour, above argentiere, in the Chamonix valley. The view of the aosta dam is spectacular! Probably a seperate list of unusual views.

3. Crystal Mountain (Mt Rainier)

Squaw Valley

Squaw is a great mountain - lots to please all types of skier check out the Solitude and Shirley lifts for nice open interesting terrain. Silverado is also great when there has been plenty of decent snow. You will find most US resorts have a lot more in-bounds areas where skiing is open and un-pisted with a variety of terrain compared Europe. You will find many areas that are almost like off-piste terrain (although heavily skied) but with the added bonus of being controlled and patrolled.

The drive from SF is fine. Major highway almost all of the way. You will have no problems unless there has been a major dump at lake level. Be sure to check out northstar ski resort for a day. Lots of nice wide groomed runs to cruise on with a nice new resort base.

You will love it.

You said that you get free rental.
If you are allowed to switch skis as much as you want then I would go for the rentals.

1 - Having the choice of an average pair of narrow carvers & average pair of wide powder skis is much better than a great pair of 'all mountain skis'
2 - As bandit says, you effectively get free servicing.
3 - Rental shops can be a bit of a hub for the local working skiing community. It may help you to build a network of contacts. Send some business their way and they may have the inside track on all sorts of things; guided off-piste, lessons, work, advice...

Dave. As a clueless non-racer, i have no idea what you are talking about now. What happened to the regs? How have they changed?
