Hi Dustyfog,
I'm afraid I couldn't see your pictures. I'm sorry you lost sight of your son for a while, but I'm glad I was proved correct about how sometimes instructors 'lose' people. I didn't like to tell you before you went, but an instructor in Switzerland 'lost' my friend's 10 year old after a slalom race, because he thought my friend had her son, only she didn't, he had gone in the lesson with the instructor. The boy fell over, got left behind, and became stuck, on his own off piste as it was getting dark, and the instructor had no idea until the end of the lesson when my friend went to get her son, and he didn't have him. Very luckily, another group was ski-ing off piste and they found him, trapped in a 'bowl', before it got dark, and brought him back. If they hadn't found him I don't know how the emergency services would have found him, because they had no idea where he was, and this story could have had a really tragic ending. Ally |

Crashandburn,
We went to Obergurgl a few years ago. It's high and snow sure, no lift queues, gondola out and ski in. But we flew from Gatwick to Innsbruck, and it's not a cheap resort, but very laid back and uncrowded with great ski-ing. I have also skied at Saalbach and Zell am Zee, which were also great, although we took a bus from Zell to Kaprun to ski on the glacier, and nearly got flattened by the mob of skiers trying to get back on the bus afterwards. Caron,
I'm glad you got back OK and had a reasonable holiday in spite of the slush. Ally |

Mike3000,
I find it easiest to pick a general area first, then an airport/train station, and then find a good resort within an easy/cheap transfer distance. I have also found it cheapest to book self-catering accommodation with the relevant local tourist board or the local estate agency on the internet, but this seems to be unavailable to book until around July. So, I would say the first thing you need to do is book plane/train tickets as soon as they are available. This is what I am going to do, and I reckon the price per head will be about half what the major tour operators are charging for Feb half-term next year. Ally |
