Thanks Trencher,
As I have repeatedly said, I'm hiring boots, so maybe I need a variety of sock thicknesses so that at least one of them will fit correctly in the boot, and I can keep washing them. I never thought simply buying socks could be so complicated. And do I buy the longest ones? Ally |

Oh no,
I just looked at that website. What thickness and length of sock do I need? They are also pretty expensive - £15 for a pair of socks! At that price, I think I will be buying one pair of socks and washing them each night. Ally |

Nelly,
I know what you mean, about trying to spare the time. Although it was only 3 days actual ski-ing, it took up 6 of my working days. We left here about 11 a.m Sunday to drive to Bristol airport from here (with a stop in IKEA in Cardiff on the way to do some essential shopping), Sunday night in a Bristol airport hotel, check in at 7 a.m. (only one flight per day to Geneva from Bristol), arrived Geneva 1 p.m. (Easy jet flight was delayed an hour and a half), afternoon to look around Geneva, chalet mini-bus pick up at 7-30 p.m. in Geneva airport, 2 3/4 hour drive to Tignes, ski-ing at Tignes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, back to Geneva airport Thursday evening, Geneva airport hotel Thursday night, fly back to Bristol Friday morning, drive back here Friday with a stop in Swansea to visit one of the family in hospital there. Finally arrived home about 7 p.m. Total 6 days. But if I'd lived near a London airport I suppose I could have done it in 3 1/2 days since they have more flights and I wouldn't have had to take so long getting to the airport. How much holiday do most people get? I have no idea (being self-employed). Ally |

Evo88 and Bandit,
Thanks very much for your messages about socks. I will buy myself some new ones for Christmas (and wash them by hand!). Ally |

Tony,
I must have missed your thread about socks, I don't remember it at all. Sorry. I still don't get it about the socks though. Where do I get them, and what do they call themselves? I wear 'Ski socks' as sold in sports shops and places like Millets, i.e. thick socks which I think are made of wool, because they shrink if I put them in the wrong wash. Ally |

Hi Tony,
That's very sweet of you, and I don't mind at all. What in particular do you think makes me huggable? Ally |

I would like to go on a ski holiday with everyone, but I can't do 2nd week in January 2011 because my younger daughter will probably be doing her January A2 exams then, and I can't just ditch her and leave her to cope with exams on her own.
However, I will be free for 2012 holidays because she will by then (hopefully) be at Uni and organizing her own ski holidays. But I will be 50 by then, and too old for the 'rules'. However I will also be on my own, because my husband doesn't ski, so I will need to share with another female. It will be interesting to see if this 2010/2011 holiday actually takes place, and how it goes. Best of luck with it, Ally |

Thanks Bandit, that does look like the type of gadget my ski instructor was wearing.
Are your socks normal socks, or are they special thin socks? Ally |
