Thanks Bandit,
That's amazing I never noticed the French sector. I was in the airport for several hours and I would have said I'd seen pretty much all of it, but clearly not.

When the chalet people took us back to the airport I definitely noticed us driving through the border into Switzerland from France, and I saw the customs official, although they didn't stop us or ask to see our passports, and I would have said it was a few miles from the airport.

I haven't seen a map of the border, but I rather think they've simply added a road into the airport and called it part of France, so that traffic can get from the airport into France without going through customs.

Oh well, if we go back to the Edge to Edge Camp next October I will have a closer look. How interesting. Thank you very much for that.

As a matter of fact,
Having the ladies toilets locked in Tignes annoyed me a lot more than having to pay the 40 cents they charge during the season.

Tignes is the only resort I've been to so far where you have to pay to use the toilet. They told me that it is because the toilet belongs to the restaurant, not to the resort. We have had free toilets in Bulgaria, Austria, Val Thorens (in the sports and shopping centre), and La Rosiere (in one of the restaurants).

In the UK I have paid to go to the toilet in Paddington train station - where they have those high tech toilets which are so confusing.

The worst problem about having to pay is when you're busting for a pee and don't have any money on you.

Ian,
They also bring pic-nics. We saw some pretty impressive ones at Tignes last week - a real spread of all sorts of yummy foods which they ate on the tables outside the restaurant (wouldn't be allowed in the UK).

I think the French tend to be pretty careful with money, which explains why the ladies toilets were locked when we were there, and why they usually charge 40 cents to use either the gents or ladies. It's a sort of permanent battle between the restaurants and the customers.

Bandit,
How do you mean, part of Geneva is in the Eurozone? I thought the border was several miles away?

I am tea total, and unfortunately they put up the price of tea as well.

I will be back to my usual self-catering in Courchevel in Feb. These sort of prices are ridiculous. I will ski back down from 1850 to 1550 for my home made cheese salad baguette and tea at lunch time.

Cheap skiing in Austria

Tony,
Thanks for the hugs.

What about you? Haven't you driven in Austria to ski resorts?

I just feel very guilty about not being any help to these poor students, looking for a cheap ski holiday in Austria.

We only went into a couple of touristy shops when we were in Geneva, and they took the euro as well as the Swiss Franc, and the airport itself did as well, of course. I had taken the trouble to get myself some francs, but I might as well not have bothered.

Do all the shops in Geneva take the euro, or only the touristy ones?
