Painful feet while on ski-lift!

Now Tony,
Play nicely with Olly. We all agreed we didn't mind about his spelling problem. I said, as long as we know what he means, it's fine.
I think it's very important he keeps posting.

Snow chains from Geneva

Steverandomno,
I wouldn't count on not needing the chains. We were driving back from VT to the station a couple of years ago in a mini-bus, and there had been masses of snow during the night. What should have been a half hour journey took 3 hours, and if our driver hadn't had snow chains with her we'd never have made it.

We had to help her put the chains on, because she hadn't done it before, and it was really awkward, although I'm sure they were the correct chains for the vehicle.

There was a huge traffic jam all the way down, because a lot of the cars coming up hadn't put their chains on before they started, and they'd pulled over to do it later - once they started slipping and sliding on the snow. Apparently the police should have stopped them all at the bottom, but they didn't.

And we missed our direct train, and had to get another indirect train, via Paris.

Tony,
I think it's quite sweet that Bandit's worrying about whether you've bought your bargain skis or not. She must be quite fond of you.

A ski jacket for £32?

I've bought quite a few clothes from Primark, and they're usually pretty good, although I haven't bought any ski clothes there.

Ski-ing here at Tignes

Zwee,
I'm still waiting to hear about what I missed at Tignes - like snow

Have you got any photos (or videos)?

And I've just noticed that you say you live at Havant. My grandparents used to live on Hayling Island i.e. not far away, and we used to sail there.

Shamp00,
I have had a further thought, which is that you could do a very simple test to see if it is your boots or your feet which are causing you this problem.

You could hire a pair of boots and then use the button lift to see if there is any improvement.

Snapzzz,
The modern lift passes have some sort of very clever electronic chip in them, which is read at the lift turnstile through your jacket, so that you are allowed through. You put it in your top inside inner pocket, left or right, remembering not to put anything else in with it, like a mobile phone for example which could interfere with the system.

They are quite amazing. You can recharge them from home, by paying on the internet, and somehow they work once you get there, for the particular dates you've paid for.

But I always have an anxious moment, the first time I go through the turnstile, in case something has gone wrong (the same as I do with electronic visas and plane tickets).

Hi Shamp00,
I have been to Borovets, and it's definitely not all drag lifts. When we went they had a chair lift, that beginners use, as well.

If you can't get over the problem of your feet hurting on drag lifts, you could always pick a resort without any, for next time. For example, I've just been looking at the Val Thorens website and they've replaced their beginners drag lifts with magic carpets. And as far as I remember, (I've been there twice) they don't have any other drag lifts. I'm sure there are many other resorts as well, where you wouldn't have to use drag lifts.

I have never had a problem with my feet on drag lifts. Sometimes my leg muscles ache, if it's a long drag lift, but that's just because I'm not fit enough!
