Are people on Snowblades really hated?

Tino,
Snowboarders do frighten me. I'm very sorry if I've hurt your feelings. And I do try very hard to keep out of their way. I agree I've never actually had a loose snowboard hit me, or nearly hit me (that was a bit of an exageration - sorry) but I've had several snowboarders tell me afterwards that they lost their boards (when I was ski-ing beneath them).

I was actually trying to defend snowboarders - so I obviously didn't do a very good job! I certainly don't hate them.

I could also have written about some of the skiers that frighten me, but the subject was those short skis and snowboards. Plenty of other things frighten me as well, like fog, but overall I enjoy my ski-ing holidays very much.

Sorry again, for hurting your feelings, as a snowboarder,

Ally

Claire,
How kind of you to give everyone some more stars :D

What a good idea

My overall star rating has now gone back up to 4 stars. I wonder how long that will last? I used to be 4 and then it went back down to 3, presumably because someone strongly objected to something I'd written, only I don't know what (because I tend to write an awful lot).

Thanks very much for my stars :D

Claire,
Don't cry. I have now tested the system out and rated your remark with 5 stars (my first ever attempt at rating). If you look in the bottom right hand corner of my new post there should be a box that says star rating. Try marking my post, and you should see the stars appear.

:D :D :D

Well, I have to admit that most of my nose-bleeds are caused by 'digital trauma' rather than altitude, or anything else :D :D

And I do remember a very funny story on this topic (which is nothing to do with ski-ing, so Admin may wipe it off), which goes something like this.

A man is driving along in his car, not really paying proper attention, and suddenly realises that the car in front has stopped at the traffic lights. He does an emergency stop, but in spite of this his car just lightly bumps the car in front, which then remains stationary although the lights change to green.

So, the first man gets out of his car to investigate the matter, and apologize. He is horrified to discover the driver of the other car covered in blood and unconscious at the wheel. What on earth happened, he thinks to himself. And it turns out that the driver was enjoying a quiet moment at the lights by picking his nose when he got bumped by the car behind and his finger went too far up his nose, which then started bleeding profusely, and the poor man fainted at the wheel because he couldn't stand the sight of blood

ise wrote:it's 112 all over Europe, anywhere in the world using a GSM phone and most other countries

it's not worth remembering local numbers and they may not always work, you can use 112 when your phone is not allowed to make any other calls when it's showing "emergency calls only" on the screen.

Thanks Ise (again!) :D

Thanks again Ise,
I looked up that glacier, and apparently it's only been growing since the volcano erupted in 1980, so in 2004, the date of the article, it's described as only being 'two decades' old.

But it does also go on to say that they think it's got something to do with the unusual conditions and that it has developed in a 'glacier incubator' :D

Tino,
You mean, you didn't have the emergency numbers they put on the piste map?

I was thinking about this myself the other day. For the 3 valleys area they have a different emergency number for each area, which is very confusing. It's not like one just phones 999 wherever one is. I guess it must be because it's a local service in France, not a national one. So I was thinking I need to program the numbers into my phone before I go on holiday.

Yep, my philosophy when I was a Pub Landlord, was why go for a six-pack when I could get the whole barrel effect

Most people don't realise the pain I went through to get it either, a dang site more than those nimby fitness geeks who never drink :)

Never mind Far Queue, it must save you a fortune in thermal underwear ...
