Littleski,
I am curious. Is there no ski-ing anywhere near Perth in Western Australia? I know there is ski-ing near Sydney, Canberra, and Victoria, but that's the other side of Australia. Is there nowhere nearer?

Smsh,
I don't really know, but my daughter got her D2B ski trousers in a surf shop a few years ago. I would say small sports shops and possibly even general clothing shops and very large general stores. I think the specialist large sports shops might be full of the more expensive makes like North Face and Helly Hansen. You can pay £400 for a pay of ski trousers if you like, in one of these shops

As others have said, they also sell cheap ski stuff in Lidl and Aldi and TKMax, but you just have to be lucky and buy when you see it, because you never know what they're going to stock next.

Everyone,
I think she's booked the ski-ing already, and just needs help with the transport between Geneva and Courmayeur, and Courmayeur and St Moritz, and St Moritz and Geneva (although I may have got it the wrong way around - I am a little bit confused myself!).

Littleski,
Best of luck with sorting it all out. I have found myself that travel agents only want to sell you the standard package. It isn't that other options aren't available, it's that they're too much trouble.
We went to Australia ourselves a few years ago, and the travel agent wanted to book us hotels in Cairns, but I wanted to go self-catering to the northern beaches, so I booked it myself on the internet. And likewise, I wanted to go camping in the Kimberleys but not with a tour group, so I hired a Toyota Landcruiser and flew in to Broome did the Gibb river road, and then flew back out from Kununurra.
I hope you have a great time in Europe with the ski-ing and visiting Paris :D

That is so not fair, that you get to ski every day, even if you do have to teach  :D :D :D

Tony,
Please look after yourself. If anything happened to you it would get very lonely on here .

And well done for getting out of the way of that lorry

Tony,
I don't understand what's bugging you about my holiday. I like my holidays the way they are. That's what a holiday is all about isn't it? Doing things the way you want to. Well I like going flat out on my ski-ing holidays and doing the best I can. I really enjoy seeing how much I've improved. I'm learning all the time and one of the fun things is finding out how much more there is to learn.

I have to admit my holidays are a bit like a commando course, but that's how I like them. No-one is making me go self-catering or ski with the French in the afternoon, but I like the additional challenge of trying to speak French while I'm ski-ing.

I would never survive 2 minutes of lazing on a beach somewhere. I like to be doing things, which I suppose is one of the reasons I went in for farming. I'd hate a desk job. And I would say I've always been much fitter and stronger than most other women. It's the way I am.

As I said before, I'm not telling other people how fit they have to be for their ski holidays. I don't mind if they stay in bed all morning and only ski for an hour in the afternoon. As long as they have a good holiday it doesn't matter.

Theobane,
I find having lessons morning and afternoon does make me focus on my fitness and my ski-ing. I only get one week, or possibly two weeks, of ski-ing all year so I like to make the most of it. You're lucky you've got a ski gym handy to help you get fit :D. I do all my fitness training at home, or out in the fields and the road. In the summer I stay fit naturally because I'm working outside most days.

Snowbandit,
What's AS? I think you are very sensible exercising on a regular basis. I think that's the best way to do it, rather than having to rush it just before a ski holiday.

edges

Scapula,
I know practically nothing about skis. However, when I was on holiday in Obergurgl a few years ago, the pistes were very hard and icy and when I hired my skis there was a very helpful assistant who said that we needed very sharp edges all week and that he had sharpened them for us and that if we needed it he would re-sharpen them for us half-way through the week free of charge (which he did).

Anyway, there were some people sitting near us at dinner in the hotel with their own skis, and I told them this, and they went and got their own skis re-sharpened mid-week for a very small sum of money and they were really pleased. They said it made a tremendous difference to their ski-ing.

So I would think you could get your skis re-sharpened in one of the hire shops if you think they're losing their edges.

P.S. How did the meeting in the kitchen go with Snowbandit (your wife for those who don't know)?

Jon,
Someone else on this site was using one of these advance currency exchange companies, and when I looked them up they were a bit 'wobbly'. I don't know about this particular one, but there is an element of risk in ordering and paying for your foreign currency in advance (in case they go 'bust' in the meantime).

I had a bank go bust with quite a lot of my money in a long term fixed rate bond, but it was okay because it was guaranteed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. But I wouldn't be so sure about some of these currency exchange companies.

These days none of us can afford to lose any of our hard earned money.

Be careful.

Best Wishes :D
