How about this one for an accident

Ian,
Now, now, this isn't meant to be another helmet debate. We don't want to get this thread locked as well as that other one

I'm just very glad I wasn't either of those poor people who collided, and I hope they weren't seriously hurt.

Getting to Worgl from Munich Airport
Started by User in Austria, 18 Replies
Okay, I had another go at it.

The raileurope.co.uk website doesn't give the trains from Munich airport to the centre, but it gives the direct fast trains from Munich centre to Worgl, and they go every 2 hours and take one hour and 13 minutes.

Dave Mac's website gives the trains from the airport to the centre (Munchen Hbf) and they seem to go about every 10 minutes and take 45 minutes.

So, I suppose the time taken to get to Worgl would depend on whether one could catch one of the fast direct trains.

And then Dave's site gives the time of the buses from Worgl to Soll, but there don't seem to be very many of them.

e.g.
Train leaves Munchen Hbf at 13-31, arrives Worgl at 14-44.
Next bus leaves Worgl at 16-10, arrives Soll at 16-39.

It doesn't take very long on the bus, so I suppose Worgl must be quite close to Soll, so you could get a taxi rather than wait ages for a bus.

I also had a look at trains from Munchen Ost (which isn't even on the raileurope website) and there are trains about every hour from there to Worgl, varying between no changes and 2 changes, and taking one hour to one hour and 37 minutes. And there are trains every 20 minutes or so from Munich airport to Munchen Ost, taking about 30 minutes.

So, it is a case of swings and roundabouts which route is quickest. I think it will depend on what time your plane lands as to which route will be the best - via Munchen Hbf or Munchen Ost.

Dave Mac,
I just tried (out of curiosity) putting in Munich airport and Worgl and 1 p.m. on that website you said, and it very cleverly changed it to Munchen Flughafen and Worms Hbf, but it said the journey took 4.5 hours and needed two changes

Where did I go wrong?

Charlie,
I've been to Val Thorens twice now, my daughter and I really liked it. There are plenty of long runs in all directions and the lift system is really fast and efficient, and we liked being able to ski in and ski out so that we could easily get back to our apartment for lunch.

Les Arcs is somewhere else we've been thinking about (as well as St Anton). Does it have any trees or is it all really high up like Val Thorens?

in all cases it is a 30km ride from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof (10 euros if booked on its own), which is why Innsbruck (Easyjet) or even Salzburg (Ryanair) are good options, with airport close to town, esp. in Ibk.

Innsbrucker,
That does make Munich airport a bit annoying, if you want to get a train on to your ski resort. It seems that it takes the airport link train 45 minutes to travel the 30 km from the airport to Munich main station - a bit like Gatwick etc. I suppose.

Lovely photos, only a little bit too large for my browser. Glad you had a good time, and impressed you stuck at it even with a bad cold

Charlie,
Where are you going, and did you get a good discount for booking so early?

I haven't even been on my 09/10 ski holiday yet.
