Hi tony my wife and i are just back from val Thorens, the ski area is just what your looking for. It's possible to ski about 600km of runs with a 3 vallees pass. 34 black 118red 135 blue 49 green. The town's not much to look at but who cares. 5 euros for a pint of stella, we found a great resturant with a specials board where the locals had diner/lunch, 12.50 euros for three good courses. you can ski to meribel then courchavel and ski the three valleys in a day.
