Loveland Ski Area in Colorado was the first ski area in North America to open for the 2009-2010 ski season when Chair 1 started turning at 9am on Wednesday, October 7th. The resort, one of the world's highest ski areas, had started making snow on September 21, 2009.

"We took advantage of the cold temperatures and got an early start making snow this year. Those extra days paid off and we are opening a week earlier than last season," said Eric Johnstone, Snowmaking and Trail Maintenance Manager. "Now we can move some equipment to other trails and try to open more terrain as quickly as possible."

This is the earliest opening day at Loveland Ski Area in 40 years.

"We are proud of our snowmaking crew and extremely excited to offer the first skiing and snowboarding in Colorado and North America," said Rob Goodell, Director of Business Operations. "Skiers and riders have been waiting all summer for this day and we are anxious to fire up the lifts. We are opening a week earlier than last year but the coverage is great! We will open with an 18" base and tree to tree coverage on our opening day run."

For the first turns of the season, skiers and snowboarders had access to a top to bottom run consisting of 1,000 vertical feet via Chair 1. The trails Catwalk, Mambo and Homerun make up this opening day run which is over a mile in length.

Two more US ski areas – Loveland's neighbour Arapahoe Basin and California's Donner Summit have now opened too.

Please find a quiet corner then... the rest of us don't wish to be put off our beer...
So I'm pedalling my bike on this sunny evening up our local hill... and this short, fat ugly little **** of a dog decides I'm its dinner...

...so I get half my bike ride and a bonus trip to the docs for a tetanus jab... awesome evening.

Seriously. Shoot your nearest dog (guide dogs excepted, of course).

Due to popular demand, you can now select the following Ski Resorts for your Snow Mails.

Ax-les-Thermes, France
Idre Fjäll, Sweden
Trysil, Norway

Set them from your My Profile area when logged in and you're good to go.

If we're still missing any that you really, really need then please Reply to this post and we'll see what we can do (no promises).

Please Note - This Topic is now closed.

Please use Snow Reports by e-mail - New Ski Resorts 2014 to request Snow Reports for additional Ski Areas.

Well that's not going to count against you! Would have thought you'd look pretty attractive to the TOs and independents alike. A good proportion of seasonaires go into it with no prior experience / qualifications and do just fine.

Get over to the forum on Natives to get a feel for the specifics of Austria and put the Natives Job Fair (during the Metro Ski Show next week) in your diary. The show itself is an opportunity to talk to the right people too.

Best of luck - go for it! 8)

You've booked up and now you want to know about the snow? 8)

St.Anton at New Year, hmmm...

Typically? Absolutely bloody brilliant! St.Anton is one of the places for which the word "Epic" was invented. :D

This year? Absolutely no idea.

HTH (a bit)

Just say no. If you can really find 90 minutes each day to work out then you just need to eat sensibly and big gains will come fast. Cycle, gym, swim - mix it up to keep it interesting - and keep to it; you'll do just fine.

If you can find a friend who wants to trim down too then that may be the best thing you can do - motivate each other, work out and have fun; and keep thinking of all those slopes you'll be able to ski down soon... 8)
Tignes - any comments?
