Ditto from me, and also, as Bandit says - be careful with parting with your hard earned cash.

What's the obession with specific ski socks and no ski tubes? I tried those thin ski socks, and by the end of the day, my toes had gone blue and numb.

I've never had any issue with ski tubes whatsoever.

Hi Gadgetgirl,
I must say it had crossed my mind that maybe I damaged my toe because I was wearing the correct thin ski socks instead of the tube ones I usually wear. I've never had a problem with my feet in hired boots before. Maybe the thicker socks are better with hired boots which haven't been specially adapted to fit ones feet. I don't know. Anyway, it seems like a subject with plenty of debate miles in it

Hi Kate,
Sounds as if it was a great wedding party

I am hoping the toe-nail will grow back okay, but it was badly traumatized in my ski boot, and then it got infected afterwards as well. The doctor said it depends how badly damaged the nail matrix is (which I think is the bit of your nail you don't see, at the base, below the cuticle, which grows the new nail).

The dressings have kept the old toe-nail in place very successfully up until now (and protected the damaged nail bed), and I can see the new baby nail growing already, but I don't yet know if it's going to be damaged or not.

I'm glad your nails grew back okay :D
That is very encouraging news :D

Pablo - Have you got a weak stomach or what :?:

Hi Pablo,
Are you doubting me :?: Thinking I'm trying to wriggle out of buying new ski boots at the last minute :?:

Yes, I really have made an appointment - got the time and date next week, and I guess I really will be there because if I don't give them 24 hours notice of cancellation I have to pay £40

But, as I said, I am thinking about giving them a ring on Monday to tell them that my entire toe-nail has now come off, in case this creates a problem with the mould of my foot.

Foot photo please Snowbandit

I've already seen a photo of Eggman's foot :D

And in fact I have a photo of my black damaged toe as well, in case anyone wants to see it, but I was a bit afraid of grossing everyone out (again!),

Thanks Eggman,
I'm sorry to hear you're waiting for an op on the other toe as well

And I'm rather surprised to hear that the other foot is still swollen (poor you) - I thought you'd had that one done quite a while ago now.

I will check this place out for you and let you know if I think they'll be able to help with your foot/boot problems.

Thanks Snowbandit and Eggman,
I hope I get there okay and it's a great success. I will let everyone know.

Snowbandit - that is very interesting about your knee. I think there is something a bit odd about the way I walk - one of my shoes always gets worn a bit one-sided and I can balance on one leg much better on my left than my right, so I will wait and see if they pick anything up during the fitting. They have an arrangement with a ski shop in Courchevel so if I have a problem during my holiday there I can go and get it sorted.

Eggman - I thought you had your bunion removed? Have you got another one on your other foot, or what? Are you happy with your present boots? I'm not sure about the £150 for the fitting, it sounds an awful lot of money to me, but Bandit recommended this place and she has always impressed me as someone who knows what she's talking about :D

Hi Snowbandit,
Well, I'm very surprised. I thought you were still looking for a new teaching job

I hope it all works out well for you. I did the same as you - moved out of London and the 'rat race' but I emigrated when I was only 19. I've never regretted it.

So, is your OH giving up his job as well, or can he work from home? It's not a bad idea to have some money still coming in regularly when you start a new business, especially to begin with. I have found that start up costs always seem to be more than I have anticipated, and it takes a while to start making a profit.

All the best for your new venture - I think it's a great idea,

Ally
