I've assumed Snow Time is male, but they might be female. Sorry Snow Time, are you male or female? I seem to continually make mistakes over this.

Ally (female)

It's OK Ally, I'm male and your assumption was correct. I also have a 10 year old daughter, but she was poorly yesterday so my wife stayed at home with her to let the boys have a day on the slopes.
It's better than that. My son is only seven and before today had only been on very basic nursery slopes of around 100-150 metres. He was really nervous on the first run (Ciste Fairway), but after a little more coaching he was really getting to grips with linked stem turns.

By the end of the afternoon he was almost ready for an easy blue run - I was really proud!

I wouldn't worry about being an idiot - there are plenty of others here  especially me, I'm always putting my foot in it, or doing something incredibly stupid.

Now that you've taken the trouble to register, why not start posting some messages? Like, where's your favourite place to ski/snowboard (assuming you do ski, and you don't just like the fancy jackets!)?

Ally

OK I bought a dodgy jacket from the Internet but that makes me a muppet not a t*sser, surely? (rhetorical)

I normally ski at Cairngorm but this year I have also skied four or five times at the Lecht (now little more than a bare hill). I took my son up to Cairngorm this afternoon for three and a half hours, and after the hill fog cleared at about 3pm it was beautiful.

We were limited to the green runs as my son has only skied 5 times, but had a great time on the Ciste Fairway and Bowl, which are still in good condition.

Although I would naturally choose red and blue runs, as far as I'm concerned as long as I'm skiing, I'm having fun!

I'll have to wait until Monday morning.
I suppose sh*t happens - to be fair Spyder Ski Store have been very good and when I sent them an email they immediately offered a refund without any pressure.

If the jacket had been cheaper, or had been on eBay, I would have had strong enough suspicions not to buy. You would expect dealers selling on the Internet to be genuine as their company address ties in with the domain registration details.

The sad thing is that the jacket is very well made, but with a genuine jacket you know the material is high quality, and that the jacket will last for years.

The only thing I'm angry about is being duped enough to post on a forum! On the plus side, at least everyone here know that the jackets for sale are counterfeit.

The arms are on the jacket detachable (if you're that way inclined) and the collar is high enough to act as a neck gaiter without riding too high. The lining is just the right thickness and allows room for a fleece underneath for really cold days on the slopes.

I must admit that I wasn't completely sure about buying from Spyder Ski Store as I couldn't find any reviews online and they use a mobile rather than landline, but they responded very quickly to requests for information and extra photos before I bought the jacket and it arrived via Royal Mail next day special delivery.

If the jackets are fake as has been suggested, does that mean that new poster Snow Time is a Spammer, or a victim of counterfeiting?

Unfortunately it means I've been a victim of counterfeiting. The jacket arrived on Monday and fits like a glove, is very comfortable and warm and also completely waterproof. Unfortunately though - it's a fake.

It was only when I stumbled on an eBay Spyder buyers guide that I discovered that the jacket was counterfeit and changed my original post immediately. Fortunately the company is refunding the £115 after I sent a pointed email. Having done a bit of digging, the jacket can be bought from a Chinese supplier for $40 / £28 plus delivery. Not a bad mark-up for a fake Spyder dealer!

I am amazed that Trading Standards haven't closed them down. eBay is one thing, but to have a website set up in the UK to sell dodgy gear is brazen to say the least.

I have checked the jackets sold by Spyder Ski Store with a Spyder dealer and he has no doubt that they are fake. I'm surprised that they are selling on the Internet.
