+remember Ally - Google can answer a general question much quicker than asking on a ski forum can.

That's quite true Pablo, but finding out what I want to know through the 'banter' on this website is much more amusing than reading pages of facts on Wikipedia, or whatever

And I'm sure I will return to the subject of this thread - the euro - when I have something new to say on the matter :D

Thanks again Brucie,
I did read that the first time, but I just thought you were trying to insult someone

I thought KISS was a proper acronym for something - like kinaesthetics, inclination, stand up, and shout (when you're lost!) :D

So who is the stupid one, the instructor or the pupil?

I must say, I think keeping it simple is a good idea. I can't remember more than about 3 things when I'm trying out something new, and they have to be simple things, like keep your shins forward, lean downhill, and keep your arms in the steering wheel position.

Thanks Brucie,
You mean, KISS is an acronym for something to do with ski-ing? What does it stand for? And how many different races/nationalities have you kissed? Are you quite sure the kisses are all the same?

I haven't quite been reduced yet to having to kiss or dance with a pole (wooden or metal), but in a few years time, who knows ... ?

Brooksy,
I have no idea why I thought you were female. Sorry. Maybe with me it is always my default position, unless there is some clear indication to the contrary. But thank you anyway for always being nice and kind and polite to me :D I will endeavour to try and remember in future that you are of the male gender.

Bandit,
I still don't get all this kissing business. And, is there something different about kissing a Scot? I've only ever kissed an Englishman, a Pole, and a Welshman, so I wouldn't know

Brooksy,
Sorry, I thought you were female!

What has happened to this thread? Why are Brucie and Bandit kissing each other  :?:

And I'm very sorry everyone, but I don't have enough money to pay for a solar powered ski lift - didn't that one in Switzerland cost something like 3/4 million pounds? But I am still considering putting solar panels on one of our sheds - apparently government figures suggest an annual index linked tax free cash return of 8% for 25 years. And I don't possess a credit card anyway.

I would like to have a crystal ball which lets me know if the euro is going to fall any further, so that I know whether to pay for my French holiday apartment in full now, in euros, or whether to wait a bit. The train will be in pounds, but there will also be about £500 per person, in euros, for the cost of lift passes, ski lessons, and ski hire, which aren't on sale yet anyway.

I have no idea what it means for the British/world economy, Pablo, but today the Visa rate is 1.21 Euros to the pound.

Hi SuziQ,
I believe Brucie is referring to the thread below, in which a compatriot of yours, LittleSki, was trying to organize a ski holiday for herself and her husband in Europe. Her problem was that her travel agent in Australia had booked her into a really unrealistic program - with a ridiculous amount of totally unnecessary travelling within Europe.

You are very sensibly asking for advice before booking anything. Congratulations!

I should think there are hundreds of ski resorts in France and Italy that are perfectly suitable for snow-boarding. You have to find a way of narrowing them down - like if you're going by train you want one with good train connections from Paris. And if you're going early or late season you need one with a good snow record, etc. etc..

Were you hoping that there were some ski resorts that you could visit as a day outing from Paris or Rome? I don't know about Rome, but as far as I know all the French ones are too far away from Paris - you'd have to stay in the resort.

Hi SuziQ,
The French ski/snowboard resorts are all several hours drive/train journey away from Paris. There is a map here:

http://www.j2ski.com/ski_resorts/France/French_Ski_Resorts_Map.html

We go on our French ski holidays by train, sometimes changing in Paris, and there are quite a few very easily reached by train (followed by a short bus/taxi journey), like the Three Valley resorts of Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel.

And here's the map for the Italian ones:
