That sounds like a "challenging" first trip... so, the most important questions... did you get to the point of enjoying it and when are you going again? 8)
Trimmed and locked. Brooksy's post is a GPWM.

New posters/skiers should always be given the benefit of the doubt and assisted. As experienced skiers, the rest of us have a responsibility to help them - if only for all of our safety.

Silverflora would be most welcome to give us an update and I hope he/she does.

400px is fine, 600px would be ok, 800px would make my eyes cry.

Great write-up - cheers.
Tignes is offering a week's accommodation, lift ticket and apres ski for 175 Euros on the last week of their season – the first week of May.

The special offer, valid from May 1 – 8, and including seven nights accommodation and six day lift ticket, is priced at less than the cost of a six day lift ticket alone at the high altitude French resort during the main season.

At least 100km of ski runs will still be open and 1000m or more of vertical.

Anyone taking advantage of the offer will also receive free evening admission to the resort's Lagoon swimming complex.

Tignes will close through the remainder of May before re-opening in June for summer skiing.

Saas-Fee will stage its annual end of season Allalin Races down the Allalinhorn from 16th to 18th April this week.

The race course starts at 3,600 metres above sea level, and the finish line is 1,800 metres below, at the Kalbermatten sports ground. The high-speed, 9 km (six mile) course is certainly no easy challenge, although there are several speed options available, top speed isn't essential in several rare categories.

The course highlights just how great Spring skiing remains in Saas Fee after most other resorts have closed for the season. If they take the time to look around, participants will see they pass through an awe inspiring glacial landscape, over impressive escarpments and through hair-raisingly narrow passages, such as the infamous Kanonenrohr (barrel of a gun), before heading for the safety of the finish line at the Kalbermatten sports ground.

The Allalin Race is a breathtaking challenge for amateur and professional racers alike. Each year it attracts several hundred competitors from all over Switzerland and abroad.

Participants have the option of entering four different racing categories: the Team Race, the Fun Team Race, the His and Hers Race, and the individual men's or women's races.

The Fun Team Race is the perfect option for those who want to take it a little easier, as this event is all about the fun of taking part. Stopping at the various mountain restaurants along the way is almost mandatory and dressing up is actively encouraged.

Believe it or not, some teams in this category have apparently taken over five hours to "race" down to the finish line. By contrast, the ambitious, highly trained athletes who take part in the individual men's or women's races can complete the course in less than five minutes! An incredible achievement, given the difficulty and length of the descent.

"Of course, onlookers may well question the sanity of the skiers and snowboarders hurtling down the mountain at such speeds. They may be crazy, but they're certainly up to the challenge." said a resort statement.

After the races on Friday and Saturday, participants and spectators will gather at the finish area to celebrate the day's events and dance the night away.

A new ski centre is being built in Turkey in readiness for the 2011 Universiade Winter Games which will be staged there next February in the ancient city of Erzurum.

The new resort will stage Super-G, Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super Combined Alpine ski races.

The new ski area, Konakli, will be the second for the city along with the established resort of Palandoken which will host snowboarding events.

Four new chairlifts, a triple and three quads, are due to be built, the longest 1.77km in length. There will also be the downhill ski runs, snowmaking and base facilities including service stations, ski shop and ski school and kids club building.

Palandoken was established as one of Turkey's largest and most modern ski areas in the 1990s and was about to attract package tours from Western Europe when the Iraq war began. Erzurum is located in Eastern Turkey and less than 200km (125 miles) from Iran, Iraq and Syria. Azerbaijan and Georgia.
It will also get new lifts – three quad chairs, plus snowmaking.

The University of Salzburg has begun a three year study in to all the dangers involved in Alpine ski racing at the behest of the International Ski Federation (FIS). The move follows an initiative by the world's leading ski racers to highlight some of the dangers they think exist and could be reduced in their sport.

In the 2008-09 season, 43 per cent of all alpine World Cup skiers sustained some kind of injury, and 23 of them were ruled out for at least eight days, according to FIS statistics. This season has seen similar stats on injured rascers, with the Canadian team particularly hard hoit ahead of the Vancouver games.

The first stage of the study will involve interviews with athletes, coaches, officials and equipment suppliers and initial results will be presented at a FIS congress in Antalya, Turkey in June.

Over the next two seasons the on-going research will focus on everything from course setting and race speed to snow quality, course preparation, and equipment.

Les 2 Alpes will stage the Kumi Yama snowsports event from 2nd to 4th July. Following in the footsteps of the Tahitian inspired Taravena Freestyle event, this new Japanese-style event welcomes professional Freestyle skiers and boarders from all over Europe, and Japan. Two competitions (slopestyle and superpipe) will be held over the three days.

Les 2 Alpes organises an internationally renowned snowpark that were launched 16 years ago in 1994, it continues to expand thanks to the help of professionals and huge investments. There are some 18 hectares open from 7.30am and 1pm daily for everyone from beginners to experts.

There are three different zones , a ski fun zone (on the northern section of the Dôme sud area with a boardercross, whoops, two beginner's tables and a line of boxes), a pro zone (big air, tables, hips and many other modules: rails, containers, drums etc…) and an advanced zone.

There's also an Olympic size super pipe (6.5 metres high) and 140m long with a relaxation area, known as the Coolzone, located above it and redesigned for 2010. A shred area will cover the length of the snowpark and there'll be a freestyle training on a big air bag – a huge air mattress to avoid accidents.

The summer snow season runs from Wednesday 16th June to Saturday 28th August.
