The consolidation of leading British ski tour operators that has been on-going for several years is continuing with Hotelplan, the owners of the UK's second largest ski tour operator, Inghams, purchasing the Enigma Travel Group, operators of two of the country's leading 'mid-sized' ski brands, Esprit Holidays and Ski Total.
Inghams current CEO, Litsa Constantinou, has decided to leave the business at this time and seek new challenges. Andy Perrin, Enigma Travel Group's Managing Director, becomes Group CEO of Hotelplan UK, bringing 29 years experience in specialist travel and the ski sector, including with the UK's number one ski tour operator, Crystal Holidays, TUI's Specialist Holidays Group, and at Enigma since 2002. Enigma Chairman and founder, Peter Dyer, will continue to lead the team at Esprit and Ski Total from their offices in Fleet, Hampshire, and becomes Vice Chairman of Hotelplan UK.
Both family ski specialist Esprit and adult catered chalet and chalet hotel operator Ski Total were established 28 years ago in 1982. Inghams is celebrating its 75th year of operations. Courtesy of and © Snow24 plc |

The 2009-10 ski season at Sunshine Village near Banff in Alberta, Canada is still going for another week at least to Monday 24th. Currently 9 lifts and 60 runs are operational with a 135cm (4.5 foot) base.
Sunshine will hold its second annual Bikinis for Breast Cancer event on Saturday (May 22) to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The event is open to all women of all ages and all participants will ski or snowboard down Strawberry Face at the same time in an "S" formation and finish in the village area. To enter, women must raise a minimum of $125 in pledges through friends, relatives, co-workers or make a donation themselves. Pledges or donations that are collected can be as little or as much as an individual wants to give, just as long as your total is $125 or more. There will be lots of prizes including top fundraiser so we encourage you to raise as much money as you can! For more event information, to register to take part in, or to donate to Bikini's for Breast Cancer e email events@skibanff.com. All registrations must be in by May 20th. www.skibanff.com Courtesy of and © Snow24 plc |

Recent cold temperatures have allowed Perisher ski resort in Australia us to fire up the snowmaking system for winter 2010.
"Mother Nature even came to the party this week with some light natural snowfalls, and with more snow predicted for next week we are hopeful of a good cover of snow for the opening weekend on June 12." said a resort statement. The country's biggest resort, located in New South Wales, has more than 150 snow guns covering the resort's key runs. www.perisher.com.au Courtesy of and © Snow24 plc |

Southern Africa's two ski areas are due to open for their ski seasons a few days before the World Cup finals kick off in South Africa. The ski slopes are some hours from the football grounds, but a snow and football holiday is a realistic possibility.
In Southern Africa, Afriski in Lesotho, plans to open for the season a week on Tuesday on May 25th, but is yet to post any weather reports. South Africa's only ski centre Tiffindell, plans to start its season on June 3rd, a week before the world cup finals kick off. The centre, which receives enough natural snowfall to regularly get snowed in several times each season, has also increased its snowmaking year on year and can now cover much of the ski area with machine made snow in just 24 hours when temperatures drop low enough. The season typically lasts for three months to early September – so should make it through the World Cup period. Tiffindell was established in 1993 as Southern Africa's only ski resort. It stands on the slopes of the highest mountain in the Cape - Ben McDhui, at 3001m (on the Lesotho border). The nearest football stadium to the slopes is Bloemfontein, 419km and an approximate 4.5 hour drive away. France, runners-up in the last World Cup, and currently altitude training in the French ski resort of Tignes, are due to play hosts South Africa at the city's Free State Stadium there on June 22nd. www.afriski.com / www.skisouthafrica.co.za |
