Currently there is a bug in that the "Latest Topics" lists can go out of sync between the Mobile and Web versions (they do sync but with a bit of a lag).

The "Last Reply" buttons don't scroll to the last reply (which would be nice).

We'll also add some "Top" and "Bottom" buttons to some of the screens to make scrolling quicker.

It'd be very handy to know which phone and browser versions folk are using, so could you add that information to your replies? TVM.

Volunteers please step forward !

If you use an iPhone or an Android; we need your feedback... 8)

An experimental mobile interface to the J2Ski Forum is now online. This is the first step in a major re-vamp of the J2Ski.Mobi site (mobile version of J2Ski.com) so please tell us what you think.

For this season, we are targeting the above two platforms as a priority. The mobile forum should be usable from DOS, er Windows-based mobiles but the poor standards support on those machines may negatively impact your interactive experience...

Point your mobile at http://www.j2ski.mobi/forum/forums/list.page

The majority of forum functionality is available and should be working, albeit with some of the lesser-used features removed to make the pages lighter. Almost all the icons displayed will do something sensible when tapped.

There are some minor layout tweaks to be done but we're keen to get any functional issues ironed out - please report any bugs in replies to this Topic.

As of this first prototype you probably want to avoid the Private Message area if you have lots of saved PMs!

Enjoy, and let us know how it works for you...

Big White Ski Resort in British Columbia, Canada has announced plans to introduce rotating "Family/Seniors Skiing and Snowboarding Zones" next season.

Three runs will be selected each day from the resort's long inventory of pistes and they will be only accessible, on that day, through a temporary gate. Clearly sign posted they'll also have extra slope watch and ski patrol to ensure that speed and safe skiing and riding are monitored.

The theme of these selected runs, which will change each day, will be slow with extreme caution.

"This program will allow our more senior guests as well as families with small children to explore more than just the green runs on the mountain and be in a space that is slow and safe." said Jeremy Hopkinson Big White's Outdoor Operations manager.

"We have a lot of runs at Big White and plenty of space for everyone. Safety is a prime concern and these dedicated runs will allow those wanting to take it slow and easy to do so with the confidence that others on the run are doing the same." he added.

Big White's Senior V.P. Michael Ballingall noted "Big White Ski Resort has always been a leader in safety. We have built a reputation for delivering quality and safe family holidays."

I've fixed the thread title - this is for meeting at the Metro Ski Show in London, which is not in Birmingham.

...this year (at the Metro Ski Show in London, which is not in Birmingham) there will be an official J2Ski meeting point (hurrah!) with dancing girls, fire-breathing uni-cycling juggling bears on skis, a personal appearance by Pingu (inventor of the rocker ski) and some serious goodies to win.

Ok, so not absolutely all of those assertions are true but we'll do our best... there will be more news nearer the time...
Salomon Tornado Ti 2011 ski's

Yes, skied about 15 days on Tornado Tis in varied conditions - bloody brilliant all-mountain ski IMHO. :D

From what you say of your ability I think it will be just what you need to progress. It's certainly more of a technical ski than an "easy carver" so you may find it stretches you at first but when you get it right you'll love the feedback and responsiveness.

You might be able to find last year's model on sale somewhere which could save you some cash over the 2011 version.

FWIW, I'd probably drop the Lord from your shortlist - I found them great in powder but pretty mundane everywhere else and wouldn't class them as an AM ski.

HTH, let us know how you get on...
Once it was the capital; of the Tyrol, now it is naming itself the capital of the Alps, Innsbruck will host its third Olympics, the first ever Youth Olympic Winter Games from 13 to 22 January 2012.

The Olympic flame will once again burn brightly in Innsbruck's Bergisel ski jump stadium, thus marking a world record for being the first city to host Olympic Games (summer or winter) on three occasions. The resort is now preparing for this historic event.

Young elite athletes from all over the world will meet in Singapore next month for the Summer Games (14 to 26 August), before over 1,000 athletes aged between 14 and 18 will compete against each other in Innsbruck across a range of disciplines including biathlon, bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, luge, figure skating and dowenhill skiing. The only difference to the regular Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver will be the reduced number of disciplines and competitions.

The goal for the Youth Olympics is to introduce young athletes to the Olympic spirit, to provide them with a public arena to showcase their talents, but most of all to allow the young competitors an opportunity to establish friendly relations between different nations. Innsbruck was successful in its bid to host the event, beating bids from Kuopio (Finland), Harbin (China) and Lillehammer (Norway), primarily due to its experience in hosting major sporting events, among them the Winter Olympic Games in 1964 and 1976.

There's an abundance of fully operational sporting arenas already here with many of them having only recently been renovated and upgraded. One of them is the famous Olympic bobsled track which was created in 1976, introducing to the world the first combined artificial ice track, on which all bobsled, luge and skeleton competitions could be held. The construction of an Olympic Village is currently underway, and organisers are busily planning a number of accompanying events, focusing on cultural aspects favoured by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

K2 Summit Push starts for Ericsson

According to the latest entry on their blog at http://www.fredrikericsson.com/, the guys were planning to leave Base Camp today with a planned summit on Tuesday prior to the first ski descent of K2.

To quote from a sobering entry (describing the loss of a fellow climber)...

In the end, all that really matters is what you do with the time between the day you were born and that inevitable day of departure. Which is why we're here. Many people see mountains like K2 and are paralyzed by fear. "You can't go up there; you might get hurt or even die!" On the other hand there are others, like us, who see big mountains and are empowered by the massive challenge, the thrill of the adventure and the possibility we see in the impossible. To act on this empowerment is to live, to turn our backs on it is to suffer a slow, agonizing death.

Good luck guys!
