Warren Miller's Wintervention ski and snowboard film tour will visit cinemas around the UK from October 2010 to Jan 2011.

Far more than just a 'normal ' film screening, every Warren Miller show includes not only a feature-length HD big-screen extreme skiing and boarding visual feast, but also a goodie bag for every filmgoer and a prize draw by a live compere every night. So get together with your skiing buddies and get down to your local Warren Miller show – it'll kick start your winter season.

Warren Miller's 61st annual nationwide ski and snowboard film tour gives the snow-addicted the pre-season fix they need, from the people who know skiing best. Warren Miller's cast of board-certified riders includes the most trusted names in ripping - people like ski-legend Chris Davenport and Olympic Gold Medallist Lindsey Vonn and top young innovators like Andy Mahre and Jossi Wells.

Wintervention celebrates the snow-obsessed. There are skiers who sail from Argentina to Antarctica searching for some of the last untouched descents in the world; there are confessions from a man whose six season passes simply aren't enough. There are the skiers and riders who venture deep into the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, chasing rumours they overheard in a language they don't speak. And there are others who tour far into the northern reaches of the Arctic Circle – where they won't just climb peaks – they will stand on the top of the planet.

From everyday terrain parks and lift-accessed powder to the most exotic global settings imaginable, Wintervention is the definitive solution for the snow obsessed.

The first addition for this season is the Snow Forecast for Serfaus, Austria.

We should have a few more along shortly...
Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado has announced that its Freeway Terrain Park on Peak 8 will now include a 22-foot (seven metre) high superpipe. This is the first major facelift for Breckenridge's Freeway Terrain Park since its inception in 1999.

"Breckenridge has been known for having the best park and pipe for as long as I can remember," says 2010 Dew Tour Cup Champion and Breckenridge Team Rider, JJ Thomas. "And now with a 22-foot halfpipe on site, it's going to be amazing."

Breckenridge has had a long history with snowboarding and freesking, hosting one of the first major snowboard competitions, The World's, in 1984 and was the first ski resort to maintain a halfpipe all season long. The new 22-foot version will also be maintained all season and is slated to debut live on US TV on NBC during the Winter Dew Tour, Dec. 16-19, 2010.

Master Pipe builder Nick Simon has the task of building the new pipe and says he's up for the job.

"This is like a dream come true. We've worked hard to make our parks top-notch and I'm stoked to take it to the next level."

Simon has been with Breckenridge Ski Resort for 11 years and has the resume to make the perfect 22-footer. He began his career at Breckenridge in snowmaking in 1999. After working his way to pipe cutting in the terrain park, Simon is now considered one of the best in the world. "We have taken our time and are doing it right. The Terrain Park crew is excited to be able to boost the caliber of not only the halfpipe, but the entire terrain park and improve the experience for our guests and athletes."

"With a 22-foot pipe Breck has solidified its place in the snow industry as the very pinnacle of freestyle snowboarding and skiing," says two-time XGames Gold Medalist, Steve Fisher. "As a resident and team rider, I won't need to travel anywhere else to train anymore. I will only need to travel to compete."

Breckenridge Team Rider and freeskier Bobby Brown agrees, "Having a 22-foot pipe in Summit County all season will elevate the sport as well as my own progression. It will put Breckenridge miles ahead of any other resort"

The Breckenridge Freeride Team will be the first to ride the resort's new Freeway Terrain Park, including the 22-foot pipe, just prior to the Dew Tour.

La Riviere Apartments

You mean these ones :- La Riviere ?

The descent served by the Aiguille du Midi car is not a normal ski run! The car runs up to the second peak of Mont Blanc and serves a number of (very) off-piste routes back down - the most famous of which is the Vallee Blanche. The VB is pretty much a "tourist route" but nonetheless is off piste over glaciers and not somewhere to go without a guide - falls into crevasses sadly claim a number of people each season.

Whilst it's factual to say the apartments are 300m from the nearest lift, it's not your average lift! So you will most likely be making use of the shuttle buses to get to various of Chamonix's actual ski areas.

That said, the apartments are in a great location to enjoy Chamonix itself - and a trip up the Aiguille is well worthwhile even if just to have a coffee at the top and take in the truly incredible views, so it all depends what you want.
[ETA :- beaten to it by bandit! again!...]
Italy's Madonna di Campiglio has announced two new trails will open this winter along with the new Tulot lift.

The new runs are opening during the resort's centenary celebrations of winter sports and ahead of the completion of a new lift-link to the neighbouring resort of Pinzolo for the 2011-12 season, creating a new 150km ski area.

The new Pista Dolomitica will have two alternative routes, the star (black slope) and the tour (red slope).

The new lift that will link Pinzolo to Madonna di Campiglio for winter 2011-12 will be the Pinzolo Campiglio Express.

Guests arriving in Davos Klosters (yes, it's now just one place we're told…) will receive free lift tickets during the first three weeks of the season up to Christmas week when they book in to one of the areas 40 or so participating hotels this winter.

The campaign is intended to attract more early-season guests to Davos Klosters and thus better utilize the mountain transport facilities and hotels.

"We also want to give our guests positive and exhilarating experiences at the beginning of the season so that they come back to us again." Said Marika Zanoletti, Marketing Manager at Davos Klosters Mountains.

All hotels in the region can take part in the "Skipass Gift" campaign if they are open during the entire period up to December 19th and agree the terms of Davos Klosters Mountains (DKM). So far 39 hotels have joined the promotion.

The idea for the winter campaign "Skipass Gift" follows on from positive experiences with the Davos Klosters Inclusive summer offer.

"We got together and discussed how on this basis we could prepare a unique offer for the winter launch," said Reto Branschi, Director of the Davos Destinations Organisation.

"Such special offers are only possible because of the excellent teamwork between Davos Klosters Mountains and the hotels in Davos and Klosters."

ski-scotland is again selling all-area season passes for the coming winter and they are now available online and already eager skiers and snowboarders are snapping them up.

"We expected demand to be great for our 2011 all-area passes, given the superb snow which Scotland enjoyed over the last very long winter season", said Chair of ski-scotland Heather Negus.

"So we have made the tickets available online sooner than in previous years. Although we've yet to promote this, sales have already been brisk!"

Ski season 2009-10 was the best since 1995-6, with a total of
374,789 "skier days" across the five mountain ski areas, worth at least £37.5M to the Scottish economy.

With a limited number of the passes available and lower prices throughout September, ski-scotland is expecting demand to pick up over the next few weeks. The passes are valid from the start of the ski season at all of Scotland's five mountain ski areas – CairnGorm Mountain, Glencoe Mountain, Glenshee, the Lecht and Nevis Range – and also entitle the holder to a free session to hone their skills at SNO!zone, Scotland's indoor real snow centre at Braehead in Glasgow. The low price of £410 for and adult and £225 for a child will be held until the end of September, when prices will rise to £450 and £255 respectively.

"The passes offer tremendous value," continued Heather, "as they give skiers and boarders the flexibility to go where conditions are best whenever they want to have some fun on the snow. Our five mountain ski areas are so close to each other that you can really just choose whichever has the best snow and best weather forecast. The passes are also really easy to buy on www.ski-scotland.com"
