Some friends of mine stayed there a couple of years ago and they thought it was a lovely resort. There was plenty of snow, it was practically empty, and very French. They found enough to keep them busy just in Praz-sur-Arly itself, but it also links up with the whole Espace Diamant (although not Megeve, you'd have to drive there I believe). I don't know about nursery slopes, but it definitely has green and blue ones. Ally |

Hi Brimster,
I had a look for you (I know I'm a sucker!). I just googled short ski breaks and came up with igoski.co.uk (although I have no idea if they are any good or not). http://igoski.co.uk/ski-midweek.html They have the catered basic hotel Chamois in Les Gets from Sunday 6th Feb to Wed 9th Feb for £327 including flights and £282 without flights. Unfortunately they didn't seem to have any flights available from Manchester. So, I had a look at Easyjet flying from Manchester to Geneva, which is apparently only an hour from Les Gets. Total price for return tickets including ski carriage and one piece of baggage was £140 -00 But I don't know if they'd give you free transfers if you organized your own flights - you'd have to e-mail or phone them. 3 days Lift pass for Les Gets/Morzine was 90 euros. Total price £422-00 plus 90 euros, say £80 = £502 I don't know if Sunday to Wednesday suits you, or if you like Les Gets, but I thought I'd have a go at this novelty Christmas game :D Ally |

I'm sorry about that and I hope you get away okay later. I had a look on the internet and it seems Cardiff airport is open, although the flight to Geneva is delayed. Ally |

I hope she comes back soon and tells us what she's decided to do. The suspense is killing me ... Ally |

Brooksy, I'm so sorry  I hope they get it sorted and get you another flight. Our snow here has gone today, but we're forecast more tonight and tomorrow. Tony, It sounds like you've got a tough time ahead of you - just as well you've got those winter tyres :D Ally |

If it didn't have to include the weekend I could do it for about £400.
That chalet hotel Les Melezes I stayed in, in Tignes does short breaks of 3 nights, cost £169, EasyJet Gatwick to Geneva return about £70 (including one bag), 3 days of ski lessons total 9 hours about £125, I don't think a lift pass would be required if they are all beginners because they could use the free beginners lifts and I don't suppose anyone would check if they use the free ski shuttle bus. Ski hire about £40. The chalet includes free transfers to and from Geneva, breakfast, lunch, tea and supper, and has in house ski hire. They could have 3 days ski-ing for 3 nights accommodation because the transfers take place in the evening. http://www.mountainsunltd.com/short_breaks/view/tignes-chalet-hotel-les-melezes Total = 169 + £70 + £125 + £50 = £404 But if they include Friday and Saturday the chalet is an extra £60 and EasyJet is about £70 more. Extra expenses would be insurance, buying/renting ski clothes and goggles, getting to and from the airport in the U.K. the bar tab in the chalet, and whatever they drank and ate out on the slopes. My other idea would be to do what I did - stay in a luxury spa hotel in Manchester, go shopping and sight-seeing and ski in the snow dome. It's a lovely idea - I hope it works out :D Ally |

Hi Snowbandit,
I'm glad it's going well, and thanks for keeping in touch :D Ally |

I can't tolerate anything except cotton against my skin, so I wear cotton leggings and T-shirt (cotton is not really advised as a base layer for ski-ing), with a thin tight fitting fleece on top of the T-shirt, and then just my insulated ski jacket and salopettes.
If I wear any more than this I get too hot (even at minus 20 C) because I work pretty hard when I'm ski-ing (trying to keep up with the rest of the class!). And when I'm really feeling too hot I unzip my jacket to cool off. If I'm on a freezing chair lift in the wind I put my hood up over my helmet and my neck warmer over the lower part of my face. I suppose what one needs to wear depends on the weather (especially the wind) and what one's doing. I think the beginner groups should dress up extra warm because there's usually a lot of standing around while people learn the basics. Ally |
