Emma,
I made a list last year, for the 'what's in your bag for a week's skiing' thread:

http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/32/7105.page#57985

But it was only a list of what goes in the suitcase, not the paperwork etc. which goes in my hand luggage. And everyone seemed to think I'd rather gone over the top with my list - but it is what I actually put in my suitcase (except that the apartments we go to now have duvets instead of blankets so I don't have to bring one of those). I could have organised my list better as well. But I don't actually use a list, because I have it all in my head.

And my daughter uses the tube socks as well as the expensive fitted ones, and she reckons she can't tell the difference. If you can't find your missing ski socks you can always wash the ones you have got on holiday, only don't put them on the radiator to dry (like I did) because they shrink

I do my packing in the last half hour before we go. It's easy enough because I keep all my ski stuff in the same drawer and it's simply a case of shovelling it out of there and into my suitcase, plus a few 'normal' clothes :D

And I keep all the ski paperwork in one big envelope in another special drawer so all I have to do is put it in my hand luggage and our passports in my jacket pocket.

I do all the washing when we get back so I know all my ski socks etc. have safely got back into my special drawer.

Oh, and I had my first encounter ages ago - October I believe :D

Tony,
Maybe Stewart has sneakily bought an extra earlier ski holiday without telling you?

I don't know how long it is until my 2nd ski holiday, somewhere around 8 weeks I should think :D

Happy Christmas to you to Ian, and everyone else :D

That's really horrible

I should think loads of people will have been traumatized by that - not just the ones actually caught up in it. Most people think it's perfectly safe on the piste, and avalanches only happen off-piste.

At least they seem to have got the victims out okay :D

Jabski,
If you go ski-ing with friends in St Anton, don't let them persuade you to try going down a run that's too difficult for you.

That happened to a friend of mine, and she was really frightened, and ended up having to walk all the way down a long red piste. She was fine on the blues, but the red was too much for her.

Good skiers sometimes don't realize that what appears to be really easy to them can actually be too hard for a beginner. If in doubt ask your ski instructor about easy runs that he's sure you'll be okay with, considering the conditions (whatever they may be at the time) and get them to ski with you down those.

Best of luck with the dry slope :D

Emma,
They usually have big notices up in the hotel/apartment block saying no skis or boots to be taken upstairs to the bedroom/flat. In fact, we were staying in one block that had a sign saying they had CCTV and anyone caught doing this would be thrown out

I imagine it's because the sharp edges of the skis wreck the carpets etc. and the boots drip muddy water everywhere.

The places I have stayed in, in France and Austria, either have an open plan boot room with a combination lock on the main door, or individual lockers with keys, so that one's boots and skis are reasonably safe from theft.

The places we stay in have a heated book locker room, which seems to keep my boots warm and dry :D

Emma,
Be careful taking your liners out - I took mine out and totally failed to get them back in! My husband had to do it for me
