I think Third Party insurance should be compulsory on the slopes, like it is with a car, and you should have to prove you've got it before you're allowed a lift pass.

And as for drinking - again, I think it should be the same as for driving a car.

When I bought mine, I had to try about 10 different shops before I found a comfortable fit (I bought in a ski-resort).

Sizes and shapes seem to vary considerably from brand to brand. Unfortunately, this can be a bit of a hassle and can result in you paying a littel extra for a helmet but if it doesn't fit right, it will drive you mad and you will probably stop wearing it!

I would totally agree with this post. I spent a lovely half hour or so in a specialist ski shop at the dry slope trying on helmets, before I found one that fitted perfectly (and only cost £35). Just make sure you bring your goggles as well to ensure they are compatible.

From what I have observed, the French are pretty careful with their money, so I suppose they see it as free fertiliser for the summer grass, and at least it's biodegradable - unlike the plastic bags, gloves, ski poles etc. that skiers drop all over the place

Emma,
There is definitely no free shuttle ski bus to Hopfgarten because Niederau is not officially linked in to the Skiwelt area - i.e. you don't get a free bus with your ski pass. Niederau is only linked to Oberau and Auffach.

BUT there is a possibility that two of the hotels are running their own free ski bus on Thursdays and Fridays from Niederau to Hopfgarten. And we are awaiting news on this from our J2Ski member in Niederau

Other than that, you have to get a taxi or sort it out with the TO's (I'm not sure about this myself but presumably Inghams etc. are doing 'away days' for which you pay for the lift pass and the minibus).

I don't speaky Welshy

Neither do I, but I know what that means, because I've heard it before, here in Wales, especially with adults talking to kids. I don't know what the official translation is, but it means something like 'that's disgusting/dirty!'.

And, back on topic, I like seeing dogs in French ski resorts - but I haven't seen any on the piste. In fact, I'd sort of assumed they weren't allowed, both because of the hygiene aspect and for safety reasons (I find it hard enough to ski at the best of times without trying to dodge a dog running about at top speed!).

I'm sure I've had some boots where you can reverse the boot buckles to slacken them off.

EmmaEvs wrote:I have my doubts on that free bus. Just got back from there. Noticed a display in the Harfenwirt foyer showing the Skiwelt area piste map, and also mention of a free bus. I checked and the free bus is the one to Oberau/Auffach. No free bus to the other areas. Another group of guests paid 16 or 18 euros to get to Hopfgarten (each way) plus 40 euros for a day lift pass.

My source was reliable, but there is a chance that the question was lost a little in translation.

Thanks Emma,
Well, if there's no free bus there certainly should be

I'm sure it would be a great help to Niederau as a resort to connect into the Skiwelt.

I had a look at the lift pass price for the Skiwelt (and you're quite right it is 40 euros for one day), and it costs nearly the same as the Kitzbuhell Alps All Star Card, which covers over 1000 km of piste (45 euros for one day and 217 euros for 6 days), including the Skiwelt area. So anyone with a car could buy a pass for the whole area and drive around and see which bits were best :D
