Thanks very much Tima, it's a lovely video :D

How long have they been tying the ski tips together like that for? Is it only young children, or do they do it for adult beginners as well?

crispyapplepie wrote:It is an amazing deal but that seems to be the norm across all sites at the min. I saw yesterday a deal for £162 fully catered chalet flights and transfers. Reduced from £874..

Do you think that's due to the lack of snow? Is there any snow left in these places? I notice all the snow reports seem to be saying 'spring snow conditions' which presumably means icy in the mornings and slushy in the afternoons.

Anyway, I hope you have a great time Crispyapplepie, and don't look at any more great bargains you've missed, or you'll give yourself a stomach ulcer

Do you have to sort out flights and transfers yourself, for that price? I can't believe they're included as well.

Gauranteed Rental Quality

Hi Niiixsy,
I think the thing to do is to take the skis (plus boots) if necessary back if they're not up to the quality you've paid for. We had to do this once with Twinner, and they hired us out fantastic skis and boots as a replacement for their duff ones, at the same price. They were mortified, once we'd explained the problem with the original ones.

We've generally hired from Intersport (in Obergurgl, Val Thorens and Courchevel), and never had a problem with them. We pay a bit extra for quality, but hire them ahead of time with up to a 40% discount. And if it's icy I take them back mid-week for re-sharpenening (or waxing if it's powdery) all free of charge. My skis this time were so sharp that I've damaged the gloves on my right hand just carrying them!

And my skis this year were only a year old (I checked them out when I got back, going by the picture on them) - K2 True Luv's.

I never do any warm up exercises in the morning. I find the effort of getting kitted up and walking in my ski boots carrying skis up gondola steps etc. warms me up quite sufficiently! And so far I haven't damaged any of my muscles etc. ski-ing on snow. I think what's very important is getting fit and doing specific ski exercises before the holiday.

The only time I ever have done a warm up is when I'm actually ski-ing and it's perishing cold and we have to wait a few minutes at the top of the gondola before starting - in which case I swing my arms about and do squats and star jumps etc. wearing my skis.

I don't think one can describe ski-ing technique in a couple of sentences. It's all about keeping your balance, staying in a relaxed but active position, and shifting your weight and bending your legs and hips to get the skis to go where you want them to.

Danj,
I'm sure you'll have a great time :D

Let us know how you got on when you come back.
