Dates for the trip are 5th - 13th April. Past trips around this time have been good for snow but they did go for Serre Che. The costs there have risen considerably this time there because of a new lift operator who has upped the lift pass costs to over £200 when it used to be £175.
I suppose the positive side is that lots of schools go to the MW at Easter and if the snow was so bad the TO's would not continue to use it as schools get to talk to each other and offer info re conditions etc. One of out probs is that we will have a fair number of good skiers so we need a good mileage area. We considered more snow sure areas but at our aimed price they were under 100kms...Dilemma!! Oh well free skiing won't be that bad surely...even if it is limited to the higher slopes :lol: |

Head honcho is a skier but has only skied Zell or Kaprun in the whole of his life!
Unfortunately because of "acedemic" constraints SMT will only let the trip go ahead at Easter. We know this is not the best option but we are keen to open the trip to as many as possible thus the price point is important. I am reasonably assured that the higher runs at Sauze/Sestriere/Montgenevre will be open and MW has a fair coverage of snow cannons and there is always Serre Che , Alp D' and L2A reasonably close by. |

Guess all your thoughts are similar to mine. We are having 5hrs "tuition" per day so there is no free skiing as such. Instructors rule where, how, when they ski and we babysit the evenings having delivered our 6th form babes back into our arms at 1600 ish.
On piste location is a no brainer for me but the head man is not so sure as he wants TOTAL control it seems. Lack of snow is covered in the "snow guarantee" part of the insurance and with Montgenevre and Serre Che near I am not too worried -) |

ME TOO...Can't wait till the 16th Feb to try them out :D |

We are in the middle of organising a 6th Form trip to the Milky Way at easter 2014 and are trying to find out more info about the distances from the hotel to the gondala in Pregolata, time to get to Sestriere on it etc as well as time it takes to bus 40 plus to the ski school at Sestriere. We are being offered a "local" lift pass which is only for Sestriere..and being charged for a full MW upgrade. The brochure and agent say 4 kms but are unable to advise if that is to the gondala in Pregalato or to Sestrire. The distance to Sestriere looks like about 11 kms and I reckon this will add about 1 hour to the "ski day" with uploading transfers etc.
We are torn between this hotel and another that has not got such good reviews but is at Sansacario, on piste, and with a full MW lift pass. Thoughts please bearing in mind that most will be competant skiers but 16-18 years old with the urge to party if given the opportunity! |

I have the same problem with sunglasses so I to now wear goggles but carry a pair of sunnies for pit stops.
Michelle;
I really wouldn't wear a rucksack on lifts...carry it. Last year a young lad from Torquay GS got his caught when getting off and was hanged. Unfortunately he died. Many lift operators now insist you take them off before getting on the lifts. |
