Another beautiful sunny day. Hardly any wind and benign temperatures. It was -7 in the village this morning and 0 at the top so a bit of temperature inversion going on. However, obviously cold enough to make snow as some of the pistes were looking a bit better. In fact, they were still snow making on the blue runs above Solaise at 11am. We stayed in Val today rather than head over to Tignes. Looped between Bellevarde, top of the Borsat and top of The Grande Pre a few times. Pistes were in fine fettle. Came down the OK at the end of day into La Daille. Scraped in places but I've definitely skied it in worse conditions. All in all, the resort is holding up very well despite the lack of fresh snow. Plenty of off piste fun to be had, just not in knee deep soft stuff.

Not too busy as well with very little queueing at lifts.

Called in at the Blue Note Bar on the way back for some vin chaud and free nibbles.
Ok. Time for some hugs.

I was irritated more than anything with Brucie's comments. I put this thread up for information rather than a debate about which resort is best. Too much negativity in this world already without looking for reasons to stick the boot in.

Let's consider this post closed and I'll start up a new one momentarily. :D

Apres ski not our thing, sorry! We enjoy a beer or two straight off the slopes and then it's a quiet night in with the family. La Folie Douce is pretty mad and also pretty expensive. Expect to pay absolute top dollar there. Watch your ski gear as well as it's a bit of a crime hot spot. We skied with some australians a couple of years ago and one of them lost their board (with no insurance. I think it was a 700 euro bill. Ouch!).

There will be cheaper places to drink in Tignes. Others might be able to advise.

By the way, the funicular up to the Grand Motte is out of action although it's possible to use a chair lift instead but queues might be considerable if you pick the wrong time.

All wonderful reasons not to go to Val D'Isere!
I would rather stick pins in my eyes.

Sorry Brucie, but that's just a pig ignorant post. We witnessed hundreds of very happy people skiing in Val d'Isere today (including us). If you don't have anything useful to contribute, then don't bother.
Pic from this afternoon of the teenagers whilst we were playing around off piste below the Val glacier. Great fun.

Pic below from Sunday from I think the top of the Moraine run on the Val d'Isere glacier.

hi peeps. I don't think there is much snow making going on. It's simply too warm. the temperatures are dropping now (6pm french time) but they are still above freezing. It was at least 5 degrees at the top of Solaise (2500m) this afternoon.

It was hugely busy in Tignes yesterday so we stayed in Val today above Solaise and in and around the glacier. In fact we spent most of the afternoon between 2700m and 3200m. it was as warm as a spring day which was extremely pleasant. Pistes in great condition high up, not so good lower. More and more stones/rocks are appearing.

just been out for beaucoup de croissant and it's an icy diaster zone in the village. -3 this morning but blue skies. Will post photos later now that the teenagers are on the case
