Anyone organising a group?

7 people have now completed the survey. I think if I get 3 more responses from people who might want to come, then there will be some point continuing with this.

It's actually quite interesting looking at what people have chosen.

Q1 - So far only one person wants to go in the school holidays.

Q2 - Resort - Chamonix still top, closely followed by Tignes, 3 Valleys, and Les Arcs. Bottom is Zell am See and La Thuile.

Q3 - Accommodation - hotel is top, followed by chalet, bottom is S/C

Q4 - Getting to resort - top is fly, then train, then self-drive.

Q5 - Holiday month - March is still a clear winner here, followed by Jan and Feb. Bottom is December and April.

Q6 - Everyone so far is coming on their own, only one person is bringing one other person.

Q7 - Cost of holiday for accommodation and transfers - currently a draw between £400-£600 and £600-£800. equally bottom are £200-£400 and £800-£1000.

Q8 - Standard of skier. 3 upper intermediates, 2 lower intermediates, 2 advanced.

Q9 - Hiring equipment - 3 hiring nothing, 4 hiring skis.

Q10 - New question of sharing - one person willing to share with other J2Skiers.

I have never had a problem with numbers and have always had a waiting list.

Hi Bald-eagleman,
You sound much better at this than me - do you want to take over?

I am trying to get those who want to come to take some responsibility for where and when we go so that we reach a democratic decision. Maybe I'm expecting too much?

Icy - it's OK if you can't commit at the moment - that's fine. I am just trying to help the OP with this. I think my method will work, but I won't know until afterwards

NellyPS wrote:Can I make another suggestion? You have Ski Welt on there, but you also have Les Arc and La Plagne, there may also be a few from 3V as well, can you merge them so they are Paradiski/3V and also add Espace Killy as an area rather than listing resorts in the same general area?

Thanks Nelly :D

You're quite right. I forgot that La Plagne and Les Arcs are connected by the Vanoise Express. I could merge them and call it Les Arcs/La Plagne (Paradiski) or something like that. And change Tignes to Tignes/Val d'Isere (Espace Killy). As you said, I thought of that for the 3 valleys and the Ski Welt but forgot about the other 2. I think if I do that I will get an extra choice - any ideas?

What do you think of adding Sauze d'Ouix? It's on the Igluski list of resorts suitable for group holidays.

Thanks for your help. It's very nice to know I'm not here on my own trying to sort this out

Edit
And I could also change La Thuile to La Rosiere/La Thuile (Espace San Bernardo)
And change Zell am See to include Kaprun, and Chamonix to include Mont-Blanc

Thanks everyone for your suggestions :D

I have edited the survey a tiny bit. I have got rid of my first daft question, and added one about whether you would be prepared to share accommodation. And I've added a 'I have no preference' option for the question on whether you want to go during school holidays or not.

So - please do the survey if you are interested in going on a J2Ski group holiday. It doesn't mean you've committed yourself to going or anything. Obviously, until we've sorted out where and when we're going (by majority vote) then it will be very difficult for people to know whether or not they can go.

And if you have any more suggestions about how to edit the survey please let me know. Once we have the basics sorted out I can make another survey with more detailed questions about the accommodation and the exact date etc.

If we don't get more than at least 10 responses to the survey then I wouldn't think it was worth proceeding with this, as I would expect that quite a few people who are interested now would change their minds once we had the date and resort, because they were busy or whatever on that date. So far we've had 6 responses.

At the moment Chamonix and March are still in the lead, but we could easily have a load of votes in saying something quite different. All I can do is wait and see.

As I understand it we need at least 10 definite bookings to get the group discount. Of course, we don't have to have a discount, but it would be nice :D

Hi Catp,
Thanks for your suggestions :D

And I'm sure you'd be warmly welcomed on a group J2Ski holiday :D

That survey allows multiple selections for the ski resorts, so I don't think we need to add a flexible option.

But I think you're right and I might need to add an extra 'don't mind' option for the accommodation.

Transfers are a bit of a problem, if we're all going to be arriving at different times and to different stations/airports. Maybe we should wait until we have a clearer idea of where we're going etc.?

I can see I stupidly wasted the first question. All I needed to say was please only fill in this survey if you want to go. So we could change this to something more sensible, if anyone can think of another question.

I phoned Igluski and they said that their group discounts vary according to the holiday date - so the discount for January might be 20% and for March only 10%. And they also said we can only get the group discount if we all do the same thing - package or non package, and stay in the same accommodation. People could do what they wanted but they wouldn't get the group discount. So if the majority vote was for a hotel then everyone in the hotel would get the discount but those in self-catering would have to pay the normal price.

And I asked them about Chamonix, and apparently it doesn't have any catered chalets! So if we do go there we'd have to stay either in self-catering or hotel. The uni kids seem to manage to pile into self-catering and share a room with people they don't know, but I'm not sure that many J2Skiers would be happy with this! I have a feeling that most people, unless they have their own group of friends with them, would prefer to be in a hotel or catered chalet. I should think that most of us haven't actually 'met' each other face to face.

Igluski also said they could take the money off us individually so there would be no risk to the organizer. In fact, it all sounds very easy, once we've sorted out the date, resort, and accommodation.
