This is a quick summary of the situation at the moment:

Ian W - wants January or maybe March
Nelly - can't do January but OK for Feb and March
Me - I'm not too sure whether I can manage March or not
Snapzzz - prefers last week in Jan or early Feb but could probably manage Jan, Feb or March (as long as we hurry up and organize it before he books his family holidays)
Icy - wants March
Tony H - Thinks it's too early to consider 2014
Old Andy - said he'd love to come if he could manage it
Bandit - possibly might be considering it - I don't really know
Dids - would like to come 'one day'
Old Boarder - wants Feb or March
Felthorpe - doesn't seem to mind which month
Daved - wants last 2 weeks of Jan or 1st week of Feb
Far Queue - wants January or March
Bedrock Barney + 1 - wants late Feb or early March
Tonypants - not March
Joe Colin - wants January or February
Brooksy - doesn't want school holidays and prefers the cheaper holiday dates if possible
Randyrat - has a group of 4 people, and prefers the last week in January and somewhere not too expensive.
Catp - is interested in coming and hasn't got any preferences for the date
Billip 1 - is fairly flexible on dates

Have I left anyone out, or accidentally included anyone I shouldn't have?

If anyone else is interested in coming with us in 2014 would they please let me know - either by posting on here or by sending me a pm :D

Here are the places we are considering for 2014:

Zermatt
Sella Ronda (Gardena etc. in the Dolomites)
Les Portes du Soleil (Morzine)
St Anton
Alpe d'Huez
Milky Way (Sauze d'Ouix)
Paradiski (La Plagne and Les Arcs etc.)
La Clusaz
Les Deux Alpes
Grand Massif (Samoens)
Andyhull - chalet The Lodge in Val d'Isere with Skiworld (around £700-£750 all inclusive except ski hire, January prices)
3 Valleys
Cervinia

I have tidied up the list of ski areas/resorts. We are checking to make sure we can find a reasonably priced chalet/hotel for each of them. And if we can't, (or there is some other reason we feel they are not suitable) I am deleting them from the list.

If Billip can find us some suitable accommodation I will add Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis (in Austria) to the list of potential resorts/ski areas for the 2014 J2Ski group holiday :D

That does sound like a real nightmare! Poor you

I certainly don't keep receipts for things like pyjamas

Cameras, computers, ski boots etc. yes.

I would just like to add that if you have your passport nicked it's awfully complicated to get another one. My daughter had hers stolen and in order to get another one she had to provide things like her birth certificate, both parents full names, date and place of birth of parents, passport numbers of both parents, date of marriage of parents (as well as the usual i.d. stuff for herself). And I rather think (although I'm not sure) that if we hadn't both been born in the U.K. there were questions about grandparents as well. And she's over 18 - it wasn't because she was a child, it was to make sure she really was British and entitled to a British passport.

I hope you get your claim settled soon, and receive all your money back :D
You know, I wouldn't be at all surprised if some people had deliberately thrown the drinks bottles and cigarette ends etc. on the ground from the chairlifts.

We sometimes have holidaymakers like that here, who drive up our lane and throw their rubbish (like Macdonalds waste) out of the car window. They seem to think that we have street cleaners here like in the city, whereas the truth is that if one of us doesn't pick up the crisp packets etc. the rubbish will simply lie in the hedges for years.

Been out and about for the last few days :D

Hi Icy, I thought you'd melted away in all this heat

Have you been hiding away in the freezer or what

Anyway, it's nice to see you back :D

And apologies to Dids for pinching her line - but I just couldn't resist it

As far as I know they economize by not opening all the lifts at the beginning of the season, even if there is enough snow, because they don't have enough customers for it to make sense, from the financial point of view.

But do they cut the price of the lift pass? I bet they don't.

Snapzzz,

Val Thorens does cut the lift pass price early season - it's 60 euros less for a 3 Valleys pass for 10th-16th December as compared with 1st Jan - 13th April. And the accommodation is much cheaper as well. But of course, as I said, the number of lifts in operation will be less if you go very early, and there is a risk that the snow might not be that good, and the ski area will be limited.

Ranchero_1979, it sounds like you had a great time with plenty of snow early season in Chamonix :D

Thanks SwingBeep,
You may just have saved my sanity :D

I am still waiting for the reply to my e-mail about beds. It is very difficult to tell which sort of beds they've got in each hotel, unless they specifically say, as they seem to call them all 'twins', and for all I know the beds in your photo are the only real 'twins' in that hotel

I was reading one Trip Advisor review where someone was very cross with their hotel because they were supposed to be twin beds (they'd gone to the trouble of checking with them beforehand) and they weren't.

Apart from this bed problem everything is going okay, luckily :D

And we still have several months before we need to actually book anywhere.

I suppose I am worrying in case we get to a hotel/chalet in Selva and then discover that the beds are doubles, and everyone half kills me :(

Lovely 'twin' beds, as well (Chalet Brigitte)

Don't worry Brooksy, I can do both :D

It's one of the many things I like about group lessons - you get to both act, and spectate, and sometimes I even get the star role (like when I catapulted onto my face in the middle of a group lesson)
