Hi, welcome to J2Ski!

Our Ski Hire partner is SkiSet, and for the 1st week of March we can offer you 25-40% off the walk-in price in the 4 SkiSet shops in L2A.

You can get a quote here :- www.skiset.co.uk/partner/j2ski/ski-resort/les-deux-alpes/

I would expect any of those shops to let you leave your shoes there for the day, although most accommodation has ski lockers which might be more convenient for you.

Whilst not making assumptions about the OP, I'll simply observe that most of the ladies seen wearing jeans in Les Alpes this season would struggle to get a sheet of graphene between skin and denim... let alone something thermal! 8)

 well, yes, but...

It is looking like the first week of January in Austria, at least, is going to be much colder than it is right now...

ceinwen - jeans won't be warm enough to be outside for more than a few minutes; visit an outdoor type shop and find some fleece-lined / insulated trousers or you'll freeze!

Also, make sure you have some decent walking boots / snow boots - you want something with good grip (chunky for snow AND rubbery for ice) that will keep your feet warm too.
The major forecast models have been swinging into agreement over the past few days, and it does - at last - look as if the mild, high pressure system that has been bothering the European Alps will be moving on at the end of the year.

That weather system has effectively been blocking out more wintry weather in The Alps, and it will be giving way to cold air from the East.

The devil, as always, will be in the detail that will become clearer over the next week but the first week of January (at least) is looking like being cold and snowy.

From the forecasts right now, we're looking at a 10C-15C drop in temperature for the East (Austria, etc.) with a lesser fall to the West (5C-10C). This will bring the cold; to at or below seasonal averages.

Most important, of course, is the precipitation; regular, light snow looks probable for the East, with the heaviest falls to North and West. That may all change around, but it's looking promising....

Currently looking good for the Pyrenees and Southern Alps also, albeit perhaps with a more moderate temperature drop.
Genuine silly anecdote.

I think enough time has passed to share this one...

A few years ago we received a quite irate email from a Korean gentleman who had booked a hotel stay via J2Ski.

Sadly I've deleted it, but it was very close to...

You have sold us a useless holiday and we require compensation. Firstly, we had to drag our luggage across icy pavements from the bus, and ask directions to the hotel as all the signs were covered in snow. Our luggage was covered in snow also. Our stay was completely ruined by the dreadful weather; it snowed all weekend and it was much too cold to go out sight-seeing most of the time. There appeared to be no organized tours of local landmarks and the hotel could not guide us. We did try to walk but the snow was too deep, except for a very dangerous and slippery hill where we were shouted at by rude people on skis. We have made a complaint to the hotel, that they should not be open in such weather, and want our money back.

I sent them a link to onthebeach and suggested they avoid St.Anton in January for future holidays...

Even better than that... a 50% discount on your free snow mail...

Merry Christmas Barney!

Get your snow dance on... you might get lucky...

Increasing indications from the weather models that the current weather pattern is going to break around New Year, with colder air pushing in from the East and precipitation coming with it (and persisting)... cross everything! 8)

It might stay milder than average for a while but you're not going to be worried by that aspect in Tignes...
