The teenagers in Val d'Isere December 2015:

I've completed the survey but it makes no distinction between school holidays and other times. My answers would be different for each. Also, I wasn't sure if the question about cost per hotel per night was with or without food.
Really like Zermatt but we are not going this Christmas/New Year because it's too expensive (as is Val d'isere) |

Are is on our 'maybe' list for the coming season. All rather complicated now though at Chez BB as one daughter is at Uni and the other doing A levels. We have a holiday timing incompatibility type situation.
Would still fly from Humberside via Amsterdam though rather than hack our way down south to Gatwick. |

The food will be cheaper in Cervinia but not necessarily better.

Zermatt was expensive when we last skied there December 2014. With the weak £, it will be even more expensive this coming season. There are some cheaper restaurants in town but I've not come across anything similar when you are on the mountain. Cervinia is much cheaper in terms of food. However, in my opinion, the skiing and general 'ambience' is much superior on the Zermatt side.
However, I doubt the skiing will be great around 9th December, certainly not lower down and, whilst cold, there may not have been sufficient snow at high level as well to open all of the runs. |

Photos of the redevelopment of the Solaise lift in Val d'Isere

Interesting to see this development taking place. Although the old solaise lift could get busy it was usually only first thing in the morning. If this new lift operates as planned, it should mean very little waiting time at the base. We've actually found the largest waits to be for the Olympique telecabin heading up to Bellevarde. On the whole queue times in val d'Isere are pretty good.

We skied Tignes in July 2013. See trip report below:

Well done Dobby! Sadly we won't be able to join you in Are this year (assuming you have gone for Feb half term?)
Family BB looking at Christmas/New Year or Easter. The latter highly likely to be a last minute booking if the conditions look ok (and would be holiday no 2). Therefore we are concentrating on Xmas/NY at the moment. Zermatt high up our list although looking rather expensive now that the pound has weakened. I'm thinking of emailing Boris and Call Me Dave for a contribution....... |
