Happy Christmas

Thanks Ian :D
Happy Christmas everyone! And I hope you all have a great time ski-ing/snowboarding this season :D
If we've all quite finished throwing snowballs at each other, there's another organising type thing I'd like to say, and since it applies to everyone going abroad I thought I'd post it up here ...

Would everyone please make sure their mobiles will work in Tignes. I don't think it's worth us trying to sort out CB radios or anything, as texts seem to be cheap enough.

I know relatively little about mobiles so if anyone wants to add anything to this they are very welcome :)

My younger daughter is out in Val Thorens now, with her Uni ski and snowboard club, and it wasn't until she was out there that she discovered her mobile won't work in France :(

We've never had this trouble before, with our Pay as you Go mobiles. Usually we get an automatic text as we come out of the tunnel on the Eurostar saying 'welcome to France' or French Orange, or whatever, and all is well for the duration of the holiday. All we have to do is make sure we've topped up with credit before we go.

One of her friends sent me a text describing her predicament and I phoned Orange to find out what was going on. It seems that because I have a Sim card monthly contract on that phone, the sim card is automatically locked to 'roaming' abroad. They said they would unlock it now, but it would take 24 hours and it might not work because she is already there. Apparently we should have done it before she left, but I didn't know it was locked.

However, I reckon that International distress call 112 should still work on her locked phone, because it is supposed to 'roam' looking for an available network.

And in the past I have had a message from one of her friends asking me to top up their Pay as You Go phone from here, because they couldn't do it in France.

Another problem is using the internet on mobile phones when abroad. Apparently if you're using a Wireless network, like in the chalet, there's no charge, but otherwise it can get very expensive, especially if you don't realize the internet is on.

So - something we've all got to consider as a group is how we're going to communicate with each other :)

I have most people's mobile phone numbers, and I'll try and make sure I've got everyone's before we go. And if everyone is willing I can post the numbers up on our Excel sheet on FB.

Then - we will just have to remember to bring our mobiles on holiday with us

Luckily enough fingers & toes...

20 - 2 = 18 yay :D

Sorry Smartski
And if anyone else wants to go on the list would they please say so, and when and where they're going. I won't add you to it unless you specifically ask me to :)
Once you're on the list Excel will automatically update the number of sleeps/days left, and I will try and post the list up every 2 days - except when I'm ski-ing myself, of course :)

Anyway, I don't suppose it matters much - Felthorpe and I aren't really cross with him - we're only pulling his leg - and I'm sure he knows that

Most of the group has bonded really well through the FB group I set up, and we do have a lot of laughs about this and that :D

Is this the one you mean?

Thanks Onionrage :D

I found the words for that song, here:
http://www.oktoberfest-songs.com/fliegerlied-lyrics.html

English Fliegerlied Lyrics
"Today is Such a Beautiful Day (Flier song)"

I like to lay in the grass and look up at the sky.
Don't all the clouds look
funny?

And a plane flies past,
and I wave up at it.
(Kids: "Hello flier")

And if you're there too,
then I feel fantastic.

And I fly, fly, fly, like a plane
am so strong, strong, strong
like a tiger
and so tall, tall, tall like a
giraffe
and tall all-oh-oh
and I jump, jump, jump
and keep on jumping
and I swim, swim,
swim
over to you and I take, take, take
you by the hand because I
like you
and I say

Today is such a beautiful day - la, la, la, la, la

(Repeat)
felthorpe wrote:I'm with you Ally. OA has a nerve. We are all perfectly sane, nice, kind and friendly people, exactly the sort you want to spend a week stuck in a chalet with  don't know what his problem is!

Shall we apple pie his bed?

Felthorpe - I've never apple pied a bed, but having googled it for instructions I think it would only work if the bed already had 2 sheets. When I make beds up for my holidaymakers I only give them one fitted bottom sheet and a duvet with a cover, on top. If they make the beds up in the Bonjour chalet like this as well, then it won't work because he will spot there is an extra sheet
We will have to think of something else
Tony_H wrote:The snow looks fantastic. I bet, like me, you wish you were going now!!!

I'm waiting for the sunshine Tony :)

OA - what cheek! The first round of hot chocolates are definitely going to be on you, for a remark like that!

Especially after I went to all the trouble of renting you a Vicar's fancy dress costume for the week, that will fit over your ski suit
