Cardrona Alpine Resort has confirmed that its winter operations will run an extra week this year, pushing the final day of the season out to Sunday, 18 October.
The move follows a stretch of strong mid‑season snowfall and consistently favourable conditions that have kept the mountain, which is now the country's largest ski srea, in excellent shape. Resort officials say the decision reflects both the solid snowpack and the ongoing demand from skiers and riders eager to stretch out their time on the slopes.
The extension continues a recent pattern in New Zealand, where reliable late‑season snow has allowed several ski areas to stay open longer than originally planned. Cardrona and Treble Cone Chief Mountains Officer Laura Hedley says the added week is a welcome boost for guests and locals alike.
"We've had some great snow in the lead-up to spring, and extending the season by a week means more time on the mountain for everyone. It's something our guests ask for every year, and we're stoked to be able to offer it for them in 2026. Pair that with our spring deals, and there's never been a better time to get up here for one last hit of the season."
New Zealand's ski fields often operate later than most in the southern hemisphere. Mt Hutt, currently reporting a base close to 2 m (80"), typically runs into late October, while Whakapapa and Turoa have occasionally pushed into November. This year, Chile's Valle Nevado has also extended its season to 18 October.
