Hi all,
This year I'm looking to be treated to new ski boots! :-) I have skiied for several years in a pair of ex hire boots that have been fine except that they have no capacity for opening the back angle when walking so walking anywhere is excruciating as I have some knee problems. :( I am a very novice skiier (been going to France and Sunshine for 5 years, but lack confidence) of average height, weight (and income!). I will have a proper boot fitting of course, probably in Banff (at Ultimate Ski?), but just wondered if anyone has any good recommendations or info?
Sunshine in Banff is my favourite place in the galaxy!! :D
Thanks loads

Excellent advice.
All I would add, is that as far as boots go, throw all your initial thoughts about colours or brands you like out of the window before you go to the shop. Try and source a shop with a very good recommendation about their service, then go a see what they suggest.
Try on several pairs, and if need be keep them on and walk round the shop for quite a while. Be warned that boot buying can take a lot of time, it is not like buying a pair of trainers.
But whatever you do, buy a boot which fits, is suitable for your Skiing and is comfortable, rather than go for something because the colour matches your Skis or clothing.
My brother and myself both have quite wide feet, and we have both independently ended up with Head boots. I am extremely happy with mine, and would suggest that anyone with a wide foot checks them out.
Good luck.
PS. I too am a big fan of Sunshine. I had some great days there last Jan, blasting round with the guides :)

Firstly you want to go to a good, recommended boot fitter, if you go to a good boot fitter your in good hands they wont just try and persuade you to buy the most expensive boots because the ones you just tried on are not comfortable ! Hopefully if the people in the shop are good enough tell them how experienced (and dont lie  ) you are and the problem you have with your knee and they should be able to help a lot and remember its not how they look its how comfortable they are !

By all accounts www.fitcentre.ca is the place to go in Banff, plenty patrollers/instructors are regulars.
Recommendations or Info? Take a 6pack of beer when you go in for the fitter and enjoy the process .
I would make an appointment before you arrive, sometimes they are fairly busy.
