Britain Targets First Medal for 83 Years in Alpine World Championships

J2SkiNews posted Jan-2019

Great Britain has announced their squad for the upcoming Alpine Skiing Championships which will take place in Are, Sweden between 4 and 17 February next month.

The Championships take place biannually in non-Winter Olympic years.

Three-time Olympian Dave Ryding heads up the squad which is competing between 4 and 17 February and is targeting Britain's first Alpine World Championships medal in 83 years after taking silver in a World Cup Sprint race at New year, his career second and a British record.

Ryding will compete in the men's slalom and alpine team event alongside Laurie Taylor who will also contest the giant slalom.

Fellow World Cup skiers Charlie Raposo (giant slalom, team event) and Jack Gower (giant slalom, downhill, super G, alpine combined) have also been selected in the men's squad along with Billy Major and Zak Vinter (both slalom).

Alex Tilley leads the ladies' squad and will feature in the slalom, giant slalom and team event. Charlie Guest – who along with Ryding, Taylor and Tilley secured an equal-fifth place finish in the Olympic alpine team event in PyeongChang – has been selected for slalom and the team event, while Jess Anderson has been named as a reserve.
