The traditional start of Switzerland's ski season has been marred by a shortage of snow across the Alps.

The autumn has been the driest on record in the country.

Hi ,

I am afraid if I hear the words " Driest on Record " , " Warmest on record " , "Since records began" I am going to scream.......

.....have you ever noticed how the weather presenters ( mainly BBC ), News reporters don't seem to be able to get through a forecast or news item without trying to squeeze one or all of these phrases in.

In the UK ( England ) they've been rattling on about the lack of water , it's been the " driest November ever" ......seem to miss that the spring and summer have been the coldest for many years though , and if we don't have lots of snow and rain this winter we will have to have hose and tap bans etc.

Funny thing is I made an FOI request to the Environment Agency and asked how many reservoirs there were in England in 1997 , and how many reservoirs there are in England in 2011......

the answer they gave me was as follows and I quote "In 1997 there were 1926 reservoirs in England" and " In 2011 there are 1916 reservoirs in England".

So since 1997 England has lost 10 reservoirs , gained 1.3 million new homes/flats, and has received around 8.4 million new people through migration (this may seem high but remember when they count those migrating into the country they only count the head of the family , so official figures show only about 2.6 million migrants over the last 14 years ).

Is it any wonder they are trying to brain wash everyone into thinking it's Global Climate Warming Change that's the reason we seem to be short of water and not Government ( Lib/Lab/Con ) Policy Agenda.

Sorry for the Political rant first thing on a Sunday morning......on a more skiing , snowy , mulled wine topic time must go and have my fried breakie now with a steaming hot cup of T , while looking at the webcams ........what a life I lead :D :D :D :D

Spot on Jon
I enjoy getting excited about the first snow falling and runs opening etc. but in my 5 seasons in the Tarentaise there was skiing before xmas (of any reasonable quantity/quality) before Xmas/new year in 3 and not in 2.
In 1 year you couldn't ski back to LA 1600 until 2nd week in Jan.
Chair lifts down was the way to get back from the snow.

That's the best reservoir based rant since records began.
