You could do that,Swell. Or, you could head back on to fleabay, and bid GBP7.50 or GBP10 for a service.

You didn't buy some blue kneissls? I put a bid in for some a couple of days ago, with 15 secs to go. and.... I had forgotten to sign in!

Re:Tuning essentials.......(on a budget)

No Dave they where some Atomic supercross, not bad for a hundred and twenty quid it would have cost me more to hire for two ski trips. Did notice the adverts for servicing whilst looking for skis, but quite fancie doing them myself. Will get hunting on the bay again, reckon its been about 13years since I last waxed a pair  will get some oldies out the loft and do a practice run in them 1st.

Re:Tuning essentials.......(on a budget)

I reckon you need an old fashioned "dry" iron - you can get these. I think a metal sole plate is better than a non stick coating.
Re:Tuning essentials.......(on a budget)

Cool got myself a neat little (Dry) travel iron of ebay new for a tenner delivered. Scrapers and brushes are easy to find, can anyone recommend some wax?? i know there is lots out there but i would rather use something tried and tested. Also i ski a fair bit at Hemel so is one type of wax more suitable for artifitial snow than the rest? come to think of it will more than likely be skiing on artifitial snow come March too!! Lastly before i bore you all too much, can anyone recommend a decent edge tuning tool, there is loads out there but most look cheap and nasty, do they all do an adequate job?? ) Ta for the help.

Re:Tuning essentials.......(on a budget)

Dominator Zoom Lime is a very good universal wax with a wide temperature range http://www.jonsskituning.co.uk/index.php Data Wax Green http://www.datawax.com/datawax/showrange.do?range=1 is supposed to be good for indoor snow.

Atomic skis are usually shipped with 1o base bevel and a 3o side edge angle. To set the base bevel I would get a 0.7o or 1o Kunzmann base edge file guide, for the side edges just get an 87o aluminium angle guide and a spring clamp. Avoid multi angle file guides as most of them aren't very accurate. You will also need a chrome alloy file the best ones are made here by Vallorbe but they're expensive, the ones made by Viiala are much cheaper and aren't bad. Don't forget to get an aluminium oxide stone to remove any case hardened spots otherwise you will quickly blunt the file. Once the edges are set the easiest way to keep them sharp is with diamond stones 200 grit to sharpen and 400 to polish. At some point you will need a side wall cutter to cut back the sidewalls otherwise the file will get gummed up with plastic.

Before you start it would be good idea to get the bases ground flat and structured on a stone grinder.

eBay.de has loads of tuning gear on it and most suppliers will ship to the UK. Rain Sport http://www.rain-sport.de/index.php?page=index have a large range.
I have used Hommenkol wax and swix-both have a selection of waxes for travel, cool, mild, warm and race set ups but most companies will do all that-just depends how much you want to spend!
