Our fifth Guide Dog puppy arrived today, along with some snow, that by rights ought to be dumping over the Alps. He seems to like it though.....

What a lovely puppy Dave :D

I don't know how you have the heart to give them back when they're ready to start their proper guide dog training. But I suppose it must be quite satisfying knowing you've helped several blind people. Did all the puppies get through their training and actually get to guide their blind owners? I imagine the training must be quite rigorous.

All of our previous dogs have qualified, although one was destined to be a stud dog. We did not know at the time, but his pedigree included two Norwegian champions and two Swedish champions, and he himself won a Crufts bronze medal. Guide dogs are not allowed to become Cruft gold medalists.
Every year we get one or two of our previous dogs back, while their owners go on holiday. One of the blind people is a serious hill walker.
Yes, the training is rigourous, but I still feel that I need another couple of years yet. :wink:

I'm still working on my training, think I will make it. In the meantime, we had two of our qualified guide dogs back, while the blind owners went on holiday. Here is our current trainee, Tweed, our fifth guide dog, chasing Ulay, our third dog.

Ulay could do with working on her angualtion and posture, but all said a solid looking turn.
Obviously age over enthusiasm is clearly being seen here as Tweed is just going for speed over technique.

More good insight, the one in front is a gal, and the one behind is a guy. Unfortunately, the guy has errm, well, how can I put this, well he er, no longer has any family prospects!
