Snow in March in Niederau?

I'm planning on having a ski holiday on march 12th for a week. We usually go to Niederau but have been during mid-feb for the last 2 years. Does anyone know what the snow is usually like mid march? It's not the highest resort out there, and would hate to turn up and have no snow! Any advice welcome!

Re:Snow in March in Niederau?

Hi Alice, I have been going to Niederau for over 40 years, and have rarely experienced bad March skiing. There is the odd person on J2ski who associates low with no snow, and take no account of north facing, snow stream, multiple tree effects, the value of good visability.

We have cetainly booked for a couple of weeks in early March, to add to the 200+ weeks that I have skied there. I have skied in many world resorts, and with some USA, and a couple of Euro exceptions, Niederau has always been good for March. On many occasions, I have left Niederau at the season end, with the mountain totally white.

thanks dave, very useful, and it certainly sounds like you're a good authority on the topic! 40 years is very impressive! i'd really like to go back there and the possibility of poor snow is the only thing stopping me, so it's great to hear you've had good experiences!

I know dave. Gutted. We were both geared up 4 a sneaky week at the end. It's diplomatically sensitive though  the rumblings were starting over the prospect of 3 weeks in 3 months.

Re:Snow in March in Niederau?

I was there mid-March last year and found that although the low (beginners') slopes were green, the top of the Markbachjoch was fabulous, and received good snow every night I was there. Think I'll squeze in another week this March.

To add to the appeal, you'll stand a good chance of getting the slopes virtually to yourself, yet everything is still fully open !
