Storage wax is designed to protect skis during transit and in the store. It does not have very good gliding properties from my experience. It can also be quite dirty. I like to give my new skis a hot wax scrape to get the dirt and grit out of the bases, and then apply some proper skiing wax.
You can ski on the storage wax if you really want to.

Bandit is right, New skis should be waxed to protect your ski bases. I have made the same mistake in the past but when I purchase a replacement pair I will give them a hot wax scrape to clean the bases and upto two-three waxes before their put into use. It will help to prolong the life of the skis. :wink:

I wax my skis every night. And then, I wax my frau's skis every 2nd or 3rd night, just in case she decides to have a good day! - )

dave mac is right-of you can be bothered, def wax them as much as you can-the more you wax and scrape them the fastest they will be!
