Snow report from St Moritz

Just a quickie to say the snow up here is in fantastic condition, but its been 7c during the day making it hot work on the skis. The weather is changing today and the snow is coming in tonight, around 10cm to top up I am told.

Not sure about the rest of Europe but I do know Saalbach last week was in a bad state with waterskiing on the lower runs. Up high above resort level here ie 1800m plus, its all fine.

Some fabulous views across the top of the Alps to be had from Corvatsch yesterday with totally clear skies.

Bon ski!

Re:Snow report from St Moritz

Hi Tony, thanks for the report. Any on-the-scene news from further west and Zermatt? A high resort so I assume it should be ok but also hope the lower runs into the resort are good enough to ski back home on. I'm off on the 29th Jan. Can't wait! Although, the weather forecasts seem to be indicating -22 during the day on the upper slopes in the next week! Probably better than +7 mind you.Cheers
Re:Snow report from St Moritz

St. Moritz valley is at about 1800m and Zermatt is about 1700m as far as I remember. There should not be too much problem skiing down to the valley at those altitudes. Lower resorts are having trouble at the moment. The valley run into Flims (Laax) has a thin ribbon of snow surrounded by grass.

The good news is it's looking like there is some snow on the way over the next few days. It might even tempt me to go skiing for the first time in 2011.

I'm 2 valleys across from Zermatt, and I'm still skiing back to the door at 1570m. See the Anniviers thread for photos.

Re:Snow report from St Moritz

It's snowing here in Morzine and it is much needed. Lower slopes are getting a bit ropey. Still much good skiing to be had up higher though, towards Avoriaz and over to Chatel,Champery and Fornet.

:D
