I have a small camera that i tied to a ski pole and filmed a run or two in La Plagne last week.
Although the lens isn't wide enough to capture the greatest field of vision the results are not too bad.
And for GBP50 on eBay, i can't complain.

Snow looks good, my sis was in Les Arcs last week and said snow was fine high up.

Would you go back? (In view of the dog mess)

Yeah, the snow was fine high up, a little thin and icy in places but on the whole ok.
Low down was another story.

Would i go back? Well not anytime soon as some of the runs are pretty steep for my daughter and partner. How they can get away with calling some of those runs blue is beyond me. I intend to start another thread about this later on.
Next time i will be looking for a resort that has plenty of greens and gentle blues as my partner is a very cautious skier but is building up slowly.

If it were just me then i would have no problem in going back as the place is huge and has enough to keep me occupied for a while. Lack of Apres and extortionate prices of food and drink has to be weighed up though.

Re teeth, they are in fact totally buggered. My last dental bill was over GBP3k. :-(

Snap! I've been thinking of starting a thread like that as some of the decisions on run grading that I've seen are a bit of a mystery to be fair! I wondered if I was the only one baffled sometimes. Glad to find it's not just me.

Great video Snapzzz I enjoyed watching it. My daughter was looking for a mini camcorder to take some skiing videos but we are bewildered by the choice and wonder if you could let me know what the make was of the one you used. Maybe pm me in case it is classed as advertising. I agree about the bobble hat by the way - class. Ria x

I enjoyed watching that. I thought you did very well to ski down those icy bits holding up your camera on a pole. And even when you fell over you managed to do it gracefully and film yourself falling over (without damaging the camera!).

Was that run a red or a blue?

That run is a blue, a looooong blue.
I am not sure the graceful fall was anything other than luck! And the camera is very sturdy so banging it is not really an issue.

Re: The Camera.

As a few people have asked now below are the details of the camera used. It really is small, about the size of your thumb and adds no weight to your ski pole. It is a really solid unit and there is little risk of breaking it.
The picture quality does not compare to the latest HD units out there but as you can pick these up for less than GBP40 on ebay its a great buy.

It comes as a basic unit and you will need to buy a micro sd card for it, i use an 8gb version and it will record for a couple of hours.
You can either just tape it in its recording position or you can buy an additional 'sports pack' with a variety of mounts and elastic straps.

Enjoyable video to get me in the mood for our visit on Saturday. Looked pretty icy although I'm hoping the forecast falls this week come to improve things a bit. We've some beginners and nervous intermediates so hopefully they'll be ok. Did you do any off piste a couple of us plan to get a guide for a day atleast and go explore.

Griz,

No off piste for me, i am not at that level.....yet.
Unless the snow comes, in buckets, you will struggle to find any snow that isn't already tracked to hell.
When we left there was precious little fresh powder left and the lower slopes were pretty much ice with a dusting of man made snow on them.
Anything above 2000m is pretty much ok though, just not fresh and its hard packed.

You will have fun, the size of La Plagne will ensure there is always somewhere new to go.

Totally agree here. i got pretty freaked out by some of those "BLUE" runs last week!!! I ended up with a pretty nice bruise on the side of my leg!!!!!!!
I would go back though and glad we did have some snow.
