2nd Trip - Where to go to in Mid March?

Hi all,

Shortly heading on our first trip of the season to Mayrhofen,and we want to book a second trip before we leave. Our only chance to get away will be mid march, most lightly the 12th to 19th.

Can anyone recommend where we would get guaranteed snow at that time, preferably another resort in Austria, but open to others. We went to Soll that time last year, started to get really slushy, obviously its too low for Mid March skiing. We will have two second time skiers, the rest of our group are advanced.

Given the choice, Obergurgl or Solden or if your flush St Anton, Zurs, lech or Stuben. They should all have good snow in mid March.

Agree with Obergurgl or Lech, but perhaps also consider Serre Chevalier as a non-Austrian alternative.

Anyone know if Saalbach is good mid-march? I see its 1000m to 2000m, so I'm doubting it. Edging towards St Aanton at the mo, trying to find a central hotel for skilifts!

Yep Saalbach would be ok, plently of cannons even if the snowfall is missing,

Don't listen to them. St Anton or Ischgl. Saalbach will be mud and grass. Like Niederau, but higher and bigger hahaha

Thanks Tony, To be honest, we're looking at St Anton as its has the height and the Apres Ski, we tend to go a litlle mad when we get away. Obergurgl looks great for skiing, but I believe its a little quiet there. Thing is now we have to try to please everyone with varying budgets, not easy. If you've any idea of some good hotels/B&B in St Anton I'd appreciate it. (Location near the Gondola is kinda important - 200/300M.....we can always stagger home from the pub!)

You'll find some good catered chalets with Skiworld and www.catered-ski-chalets.co.uk in St Anton

skied ischgl a few days ago,very impressive to say the least.quality pistes,loads of accessible offpiste and one hell of a lift system.

skied over from the samnaun side,so didnt get to see the infamous apres ski.Will hopefully go there on a boys trip in the near future.

VERY interesting, as I was looking at skiing Ischgl from that side, but struggled to find accommodation details or ways of getting there. Any suggestions?

Tony,

I know you have recommended Mayrhofen in the past, and I'm going there for the first time in 3 weeks....but what would it be like mid march? I'm getting great deals out of Ireland for there for March 12th, and would have no problem going there twice in one season!!

I've never been that late but my friend has many times. You should be fine, I head back from there 5th March after a week. The snow there is not a problem up until early April at the least.
