Steep-ski movie

Finally got round to watching this ski movie today, (Steep) thought it was an amazing film, (its certainly not one of those stupid free films you get with a ski/ board magazine, people just shredding it etc)

captures beautifully what skiing means to me, i'm no high mountain, back country skier by any means but when the pioneers of big mountain skiing talk about what it means to them it was really interesting and inspiring i thought. Also interesting to see how they deal with losing friends in the mountains, which happens to most of them and unfortunately quite a lot, they know the risks but like one of the guys said, "you can live your life like a lamb or live your life like a lion, i choose the lion!"

some great footage from the beginnings of high mountain skiing in the 70's up to the current day..

certainly worth a watch, captured a lot of emotions for me... i got if for 7 quid in HMV if anyone did want to buy it.

Freehandjunkie, This is one of the great films up there with the aged Blizzard of Ahhs. Its rather sad that both Doug and Shane have died in the mountains since it was filmed but the film remains as a moving tribute to them both and others that we have lost participating in a sport they so clearly love.

Forgot to mention, if your into to extreme skiing then I can recommend the book "The Edge of Never" and it is now on DVD. It has some great footage of Anselme Baud, Glen Plake, Stephane (Fanfan)Dan and others in Chamonix. They have arranged for Kye Petersen, then 15 years of age and son of the late and great Trevor Petersen, to ski the run where his Father had died many years before.

yeah, i didnt realise Doug had died so when it said near the end he had i was shocked and saddened, seemed a really down to earth guy who was following his dreams, i have been trying to get the Edge of Never, i read about the story of this film, taking his son back to ski on the spot his dad had died, seems a great film, i skied Chamonix last season for the first time and did the Vallee Blanche, an astonishing place, the Auguille du Midi cable car too!

Got my copy of "The Edge of Never" DVD from the States. If you do a web search under The Edge of Never" it produces William Kerig's site where you can order it. I thought it was well worth the wait. Not been to Cham yet but its high up on my list to visit
