Too right - I can (maybe from a cost point of view though still hugely disappointing) see them missing out the far flung stuff but "premier neige" in VDI is always in December so why wait a month of the European season? :x

Re:Ski Sunday

What annoys me is the BBC spend a fortune on sports like Bowls, Snooker, Rugby League & even 2nd rate World Darts but hardly anything on Winter Sports. Yes they should these sports as well (rather than huge salaries to overpaid presenters) & Ok I agree we are not great at Skiing, but that doesn't mean there is a keen interest. Luckily I am fortunate to watch it on Eurosport

Re:Ski Sunday

It's a bit catch 22 I think. If they raise the profile of the sport in the UK by showing it on telly, more kids would be interested, they might get more sponsors, we might do a bit better etc. If I remember rightly they did well with coverage of the winter Olympics. It is lame that they pick up a sport half way through the season.

Only criticism of Eurosport it it's a bit random. The programmes advertised are often totally different to what's on the channel. Still haven't figured it out properly yet.

Re:Ski Sunday

Starting to cover the skiing mid Jan is way too late IMO. Mind you, all you get on Ski Sunday is edited highlights of SOME of the weekends skiing.
I tend to record the skiing on Eurosport and watch it back when I can, then I can edit my own programme!
Basically, their programmes change with the weather. If something is scheduled, and they have bad weather, they have a back up event to show, which is why you often tune in to watch skiing and end up with ski jumping for example.
I was hoping to see the skiing from St Moritz last weekend but it was postponed and then I didnt watch the retimed programme. Bummer.
The mens downhill from Val Gardena was very good though, that looks an amazing course, and I want to ski it! I've met Uli Spiess a number of times, thoroughly nice bloke, and a bit of a legend at Val Gardena.

Nice to see British Eurosport are using Chemmy Alcott whilst she is out injured, excellent commentry from VDI over the weekend. Great thing about eurosport is the diversity of there programnes, everything from winter biathalon to summer timbersports.

I'll second that. Considering she's not a commentator by trade she's doing an absolutely cracking job of it. And it's nice to hear the enthusiasm still in her voice despite the situation she's in. I get the feeling she's put the regular guy's nose out of joint a little too which is quite amusing

Talking of commentry, I love listening to those 2 idiots on Eurosport. Ex racers they may be, but they don't half talk some rubbish.

Typical example will be either someone skiing down and one of them saying hes out of touch and looking slow, only for the green light to come on and them fly into the lead, or the opposite and they say how well they're skiing and flying, and sound surprised when they're a second off the pace at the finish.
Clowns.

They do a brilliant job of broadcasting as much as possible. I am a little biased though as im also into cycling and they cover all this too :P

The BBC is a joke like you say. By the time they get round to showing any coverage the season will be over 6 weeks in...

For other coverage on ski footage for those who have sky HD i would reccommend Rush HD. I think its a such a great channel for all the freeski footage.

Re:Ski Sunday

I thought Chemmy Alcott was really good as well. Great enthusiasm and obviously highly knowledgeable about what was going on!

Ski Sunday was such a good programme 2/3 years ago. It was on for an hour and featured not just racing, but also some 'Top Gear' type features. I also liked the snowboarding that they covered. Then the dreaded credit crunch hit,the BBC sports budget got slashed, and we only get a rushed half hour programme. Lets hope they invest some cash back into it soon.

Having said that, I have heard that the BBC have declined the opportunity to cover the Commonwealth Games in 2014 in Glasgow. This is a real shame and seems to indicate that they are not likely to invest much cash into sports for the next few years!
